According to a report by News18, the Union government’s cybersecurity division is considering a ban on BGMI in India and recommended discontinuing the app. Furthermore, the report claims the entry of Pakistani citizen Seema Haider, who met her partner Sachin Meena on BGMI, is one of the major reasons behind the decision.

BGMI data collection is another potential reason the game could face a ban in India. The servers are based in the US, and government agencies want to ensure there is no movement of data to other countries. Previously, BGMI faced a ban in 2021 for cybersecurity reasons, as the game reportedly sent data to China.

No Official Response From Developer Krafton

Moreover, the news report claims a meeting scheduled for next week will take the final decision, with developer Krafton presenting its stance on the issue and central agencies taking the final call. Currently, there is no official information regarding the BGMI ban in India, and there has been no response from the developer Krafton on this report.

There are also other issues related to the game, including concerns related to the addiction of young players and for allegedly promoting violence. The government unbanned BGMI in May 2023 with Union IT Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar announcing a three-month trial approval with the ministry keeping a “a close watch on other issues of User harm, Addiction, etc in next 3 months before a final decision is taken”.

As there is no official information regarding the issue, the BGMI ban news in India should be taken with a pinch of salt, although the possibility of the game facing a ban still exists.
