Should you buy the new iPhone XS, XS Max or the iPhone XR?

The million dollar question right now is whether it will be worthwhile to upgrade to the new iPhones? The short answer is that it depends on whether you are hooked on to the Apple ecosystem, which for the most part, is a walled garden controlled in totality by Apple.

The long answer is that while the new iPhones are the best there are, it does not offer a very significant upgrade over the previously launched iPhone X. Sure there is now an affordable iPhone XR. That is if you call Rs 76,990 affordable. We’d previously covered its rumours earlier in a separate post. For its price tag however, you can easily get the Galaxy Note 9, which has all the features and more.

Apple has been on the poaching side of the price tags for many years and we know that. Their devices are just getting more premium every year and the price tag has reflected that. So why would anyone want to buy a phone worth Rs 1 lakh?

If you are into the new design language, you can certainly buy the new iPhones. The iPhone X from last year has been discontinued along with the remainder of iPhones which had the headphone jack such as the iPhone SE, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S. In India, they still might be selling these devices but Apple has not confirmed any legitimate drop in prices.

For many people who want the cheaper variant of the new design language that Apple is implementing, the iPhone XR seems to be the ideal choice. However, it has only got an HD display for an Rs 80,000 phone, which will quite likely be a deal breaker for many.

As per Apple’s official pricing, the iPhone XR starts from Rs 76,900 and goes all the way to Rs 97,000. The iPhone XS starts at a staggering Rs 99,900 and the iPhone XS Max going even higher with a Rs 1,09,900 price tag. All the above price tags are for the base variant that gets you a meager 64 GB of internal storage space! The 512 GB variant of the iPhone XS Max is actually priced at Rs 1,45,000.

Of course, the net price for you can be significantly lower if you decide to sell your used smartphone on Cashify before you upgrade.

With a 5.8-inch display, the iPhone XS is now the smallest new iPhone you can buy! So if you are in the market for an iPhone for (almost) normal-sized hands. The iPhone XS Max is the biggest display on an iPhone ever. The reasoning behind the Max naming convention is that it has a lot more display in the same phone size as the 5.5-inch iPhone 8 Plus.

What we can see from Apple this year is that it seems to be separating the men from the boys. While that sounds cool, it’s interesting to note how iPhone buyers or Apple customers would react to these sky-high price tags. Not many people are going to be happy about the way Apple has been pricing products in recent times.
