Apple watches have proved to be the best-shipping smartwatches in the Asian continent, and for good reason. The Apple Watch Series 3 saw some significant developments such as the inclusion of LTE support. The LTE connection in the watch would help the user to dial without having an iPhone, and probably lead to an increse in sales.
2018 for the Apple Watch
The market for Apple’s smartwatch actually fell by 9% in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2018. Apple tends to face tough competition from the other competitors in the market with cheaper products. The primary reason for the fall of market share was the extraordinary performance of rivals such as Fitbit and Garmin. Initially, the market share was 43%, which later toppled down to 34%.
Analysts say that the research and the marketing team of the company prepared themselves to expand their horizons. The expansion resulted in a 30% increase of the sale. The positive impact was such that the sales beat the Q2 numbers from 2017. One of the major reasons for this was the collaboration with different operators of the cellular networks across the globe. When the LTE-enabled watch was first launched, there were only a limited cellular-operators that signed up for the Apple’s mega project. However, by the end of Q1 2018 and the beginning of Q2, a lot of the operators joined hands with Apple which saw the success of Series 3 in the Asia-Pacific region.
China, India and more
Series 3 performed quite well in China in the first quarter of 2018. The company sold as many as 250,000 units. In May 2018, Series 3 was launched in the countries such as Sweden, Denmark, India, and Taiwan. The total number of countries Apple Watch Series 3 is now being sold in is 16.
This sales chart indicates how Apple has been facing a continuous downfall in the market of smartwatches. When the watch was first launched in the year 2017, it saw a steady sale until the fourth quarter of 2017. However, after the fourth quarter, the sale began to plummet. This was due to the influence of other smartwatch manufacturers such as Garmin. The wearable devices launched by these companies deliver better and more accurate results when it came to heart rate monitors, steps, calories, etc. There were more features awarded in those watches which left Apple Watch Series 3 behind. But it’s still the best selling watch in the world!
