The latest addition to the MacBook Pro line up has been announced which has seen the exit of the function key on the keyboard. It’s now replaced by a new ‘Retina-quality’ multi-touch display also known as the ‘Touch Bar’. It’s the thinnest MacBook yet which also gets a new design. We here at Cashify would like to bring out the key features and the major differences in the new device when compared to the previous year MacBook Pro (2015).
The latest addition to the MacBook Pro is the Touch Bar and the Touch Sensor ID and the overall weight of the device drops down significantly making it the thinnest and lightest MacBook Pro of all time. There are two variants of the 2016 edition of MacBook Pro – 13-inch and 15-inch. Both versions of the laptop come with an aluminum enclosure, LED-backlit display and have color options of silver and space grey. The Touch Bar is an OLED strip that sits at the same place as the Function keys in earlier versions. The new launch also has a larger Force Touch trackpad. With the new Touch ID feature, MacBook Pro users can quickly unlock the Mac and use Apple Pay on the web.
Comparing the design language, 13-inch model weighs just 1.37 kg and measures 14.9 X 304.1 X 212.4 mm, while the 15-inch model weighs 1.83 kg and measures 15.5 X 349.3 X 240.7 mm.
Having the same screen size and size variant as the previous, the Apple MacBook Pro has a much brighter and vivid display. Apple claims that the new launch screen produces 500 nits of brightness which is 67% higher than that of previous generation MacBook Pro. It also offers higher contrast ratio, more vibrancy and is more power efficient compared to the 2015 version.
It offers a 13.3-inch LED-backlit IPS display with 2560 X 1600 pixel resolution and density of 227 ppi and a 15.4-inch LED-backlit IPS display with 2880 X 1800 pixel resolution with pixel density of 220 ppi. There is no difference in screen size compared to previous generation MacBook.
Hardware and Power:
The new iteration of MacBook is claimed to be power efficient and much powerful than its predecessor. The 15-inch model of the laptop has much better graphics comparatively.
13-inch MacBook Pro
The 13-inch model with Touch Bar offers a 2.9GHz dual-core Intel Core i5, 256GB Solid Slate Drive, 8GB of RAM, Intel Iris Graphics 550 and a built-in 49.2Wh battery.
(Note: The base model doesn’t have a Touch Bar)

The 15-inch base model with Touch Bar offers a 2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7, 256GB Solid State Drive, 16GB of RAM, Radeon Pro 450 Graphics Processor with 2GB of GDD55 memory and Intel HD Graphics 530 and a built-in 76.0Wh battery.
MacBook Pro took a leap from previous year hardware and would surely outperform the 2015 version. Despite having a less power battery, the new MacBook Pro 2016 offers better performance. The 15-inch model with Touch Bar and Radeon Pro graphics can handle intense graphics.
Consider it a good news or a bad one, the new iteration of MacBook Pro has ditched the old USB ports and just features Thunderbolt 3 (Type C) ports. It has also discontinued the SD Card slot.
The MacBook Pro only features 2/4 Thunderbolt 3 (USB Type-C design). These ports can handle charging, DisplayPort, and Thunderbolt. Both the models also feature a 3.5mm headphone jack. So, one can now charge and transfer data using the same port on the MacBook Pro (2016). To use the MacBook Pro 2016 with your existing devices a lot of new cables or adaptors would be needed.
(Note: The number of Thunderbolt 3 port depends on the model you get. You get just 2 in the base model and 4 in the mid or high end model).
MacBook Pro 13-inch with Touch Bar will be coming in two variants priced at $1,799 (INR 1.2 Lakh) and $1,999 (INR 1.33 Lakh) respectively while the 15-inch MacBook Pro will have two variants – (both inheriting the new Touch Bar) and will be priced at $2,399 (INR 1.6 Lakh) and $2,799 (INR 1.85 Lakh) respectively.

The price tag of the devices is bit hefty so one should consider the addition of the Touch Bar in the new line up. Considering the whole insights, it’s a powerful device with great graphics and better specs. The new MacBook Pro also runs Mac OS Sierra and offers 10 hours of battery life.
