Dating apps have certainly picked up the pace in urban India with a lot of apps vying for the top spot. Chinese dating app Tantan, apparently, doesn’t want to miss out on the growing Indian dating scene. The Beijing-based platform raised $70 million in its Series D round of funding and is now headed to India.
Indian Expansion Plans
According to Wang Yu, CEO of Tantan, these monetization options will be used to expand in growing markets like India. Tantan will have to be familiar with the Indian audience if it I to become a big player. This will certainly not be easy, considering the massive popularity of apps like Tinder, TrulyMadly, OkCupid and many more.
Especially mentionable is the huge popularity of Tinder, which opened its first international office in Delhi last year amidst claims that it was making 26 million matches every day and had processed as much as 10 billion matches overall.
Tinder was helped by the fact that the company enjoyed reasonable familiarity with the Indian audience even before making their foray into the market. This is probably the
biggest of all challenges which Tantan has to overcome.
However, Tantan claims to be doing extremely well as of now. It boasts 60 million users registered, of which 6 million are active daily users.
Another impressive statistic for the Beijing-based app to talk about would be its male to female ratio which is quite impressive at 6:4. With the big investment under its belt, Tantan can be expected to vie aggressively for a share of the big Indian dating pie.
