The new iPhones have been announced in Cupertino and it seems that all the leaks and rumours about the devices hold true. All the three iPhones launched have got the same design language as the iPhone X. The phones have been announced for the global markets simultaneously.
Release Date and Pricing
The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, which are Apple’s most premium devices to date, will start shipping from 26 September. The cheaper but similar looking iPhone XR will be shipping a little late from 26 October.
In India, the iPhone XS retails for a starting price of Rs 99,900 while the iPhone XS Max retails for a starting price of Rs 1,09,900. Quite clearly that is a very expensive pricing strategy by Apple. The cheaper iPhone XR starts at Rs 76,900, which is not cheap in any context of the word to be honest.
Inside the phone we find the iPhone XR comes with an A12 Bionic chipset which is made using the 7 nm manufacturing technology. The XS and the XS Max also come with the same chipset. However, they have 3D touch-enabled on their screens which is not present on the iPhone XR.
The XS has a 5.8-inch display making it the same size as the iPhone X. The iPhone XS Max has a massive 6.5-inch display and this makes it the biggest iPhone till date in terms of screen size. The iPhone XR has a 6.1-inch IPS LCD display which Apple is calling the liquid retina display. One major drawback of the device is that it supports only HD resolution.
The iPhones this year will be having a dual-SIM support. The exact implementation of the feature is unknown, but from what Apple said on stage, it seems that the phones will use a regular SIM alongside and eSIM for delivering this functionality.
Both the iPhone XS and XS Max feature 12 MP f/1.8 + 12 MP f/2.4 dual camera (wide+tele) cameras, but more importantly, they feature a lot of AI enhancements that finally improve the bokeh capabilities of the phones.
The iPhone XR, on the other hand, has a single camera implementation with the 12 MP sensor. The front of all the three phones has the FaceID system and the 7 MP front-facing camera. Apple has said that these phones will last about 1.5 hours longer than the iPhone X and the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.
The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max will be available in 64/256/512 GB storage options. These will be available in the regular silver and space grey colours as well as in a refreshed gold variant as well. The iPhone XR will be available in 64, 128 and 256 GB storage variants and in 5 new colours.
