When we talk about budget smartphones, or even feature phones, we do not think of Itel. That is quite surprising, since Itel is one of the biggest feature phone brands in Africa and middle eastern countries.
The company has not managed to setup a strong foothold in the Indian market, which incidentally is the biggest feature phone market in the world.
To make amends, Itel has come with its entry level budget flagship device, which in its own sense is going to compete with the likes of the Xiaomi, Lava and Micromax, all of which are big and established brands in India.
The Itel S42 can be considered as a premium entry-level smartphone. The fact is that the phone cannot be promoted as much as Xiaomi or any such high profile brand in India, as Itel does not have as much reach.
But as a device, the S42 does provide a lot of competition to other budget devices – such as the Lava A8 and the Xiaomi Redmi 5. The Itel S42 has been launched at a price of Rs 8,499, and the most shocking thing about this is that the phone will be available for purchase from Itel partnered offline retail stores only.
Quite shocking, right?
Not as much as we would like to believe. The majority of Indians still do not shop online. Only about 30 percent of the Indian market has online. The rest still purchase their products through partnered offline stores. In that aspect, Itel has a lot of branding with offline channels and could, therefore, have a strong influence in the rural market of India.
Itel S42 Specifications
When we look under the hood we find that the S42 comes with a 5.65-inch HD+ display which has an 18:9 aspect ratio. The screen has been given additional protection and is covered with a 2.5D curved glass.
The phone will come with face recognition software enabled on the device via an additional update. At the back of the phone, there is also a fingerprint sensor. Itel claims it will unlock the device in a mere 0.1 seconds. In the software department, the phone will come with Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box.
In terms of hardware options, the phone will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC. This, along with 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage should make for quite a decent package. The storage can be expanded to 128 GB with the help of a microSD card.
In the camera department, the phone provides the user with a 13 MP rear single camera with PDAF enabled. In the front, there is a 13 MP selfie camera with dual front soft light.
Quite a loaded package for the price, isn’t it? While you can’t buy this one online, you surely can sell your current device online. At Cashify, we buy all major smartphone brands – from Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Apple, to HTC, Acer and more!
