Lenovo could be considered on some kind of streak in the smartphone industry. Recently, the company announced a whole new lineup of mid-range smartphones that could be direct competition to the Vivo and Oppo phones. More recently the company announced the S5 in China along with the K5 Lite for the mid-range to premium mid-range category.
Lenovo is also the owner of the brand Motorola, and one can see the wide variety of launches Motorola has been dishing since last year. However, Lenovo has not been making a lot of noise in the budget smartphone segment. However, that looks to change as Lenovo has announced the K5 and K5 Play smartphones for the budget segment and it could seem that the heat is on Xiaomi for this one.
Both the devices have been listed on Lenovo’s official Chinese website and at the first glance you can see how striking the resemblance is between these devices and the Honor 9 is. As for the internals of the device The Lenovo K5 will have a 5.7” LCD panel of HD+ resolution, however, the chipset will be a low-powered MediaTek MT6750 and it will be bundled along with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of onboard storage.
The Lenovo K5 Play, on the other hand, has the same 5.7” display but it will have a higher powered Snapdragon 430 and two variants which are 2 GB RAM + 16 GB internal storage and 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage.
In the software department, the Lenovo K5 and the K5 Play both have Lenovo’s custom UI called ZUI 3.7, which would be based on the newer Android Oreo. As far as optics go, the K5 has 13 MP and 5 MP sensors in its dual camera setup while the K5 Play has 13 MP and 2 MP sensors. Both the cameras have accompanying LED lights as well as 8 MP cameras on the front. There is no provision for a selfie flash on the front.
When we look at connectivity options, both the devices have the basic requirements checked such as dual-SIM VoLTE support, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and micro-USB 2.0 port with OTG support. The Lenovo K5 is powered by a 3,000 mAh battery while the K5 Play has a 3,500 mAh battery powering it. Both the devices have fingerprint sensors located on the back.

In the case of the Lenovo K5, the phone is offered in Gray, Black or Blue colour variants. Along with this, the phone also costs around CNY899 which equals around Rs 9,000. The phone is now selling in the Chinese smartphone market. The price for the Lenovo K5 Play is CNY 699 or around Rs 7,000 and it has Black, Blue or Gold as colour options. The phone will start selling from 17 April in China.
