Recently, a tweet from WalkingCat tipped us all off about the leaks regarding Microsoft’s new Surface mobile. They originated from a suspected Microsoft related channel – Bilbili, a Chinese video-sharing platform. After having recently launched the Surface Pro, the smartphone lines make logical sense for Microsoft. Let’s round them all up for you.
Codenames and Platform Reveal
Surface Peking and Surface Slavonia are the codenames of the two variants of the new device, and the project codename is “Andromeda”. It is likely to be based on Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile platform, the exact System on Chip has not been hinted yet. Some claim it to run Snapdragon 835, some other predicts that as the mid-range Snapdragon 660. To quote the mentioned leak, this will be the perfect balance of performance and power consumption.
Projection and Prop-up features
It also drops a reference to on-table projection ability in Continuum mode and indicates that it will be more than the usual “handheld terminal”. The usage of projection could last about one hour at a stretch, possibly because high generation of heat or a fast drainage of battery. It will have a kickstand that can allow the device to open up as far as 185 degrees.
Surface Pen en route
More interestingly, some leaks even suggest that the Surface Mobile will support with a Surface Pen. This will definitely be an innovative step from Microsoft, considering this is the first of its kind by the said company. As we can see, this will definitely be the USP of the device.
All of these are unofficial claims and the even the timing of launch has not been confirmed yet, although speculators keep a high hope of having a peek near late 2017. Would you upgrade?
