MIUI 10 Announced

When Xiaomi announced the Mi 8, the smartphone maker also launched its new MIUI skin for global release, the MIUI 10. The latest skin is based on Android 8.1 Oreo and it comes with a lot of the previously expected features in a Xiaomi smartphone.

Xiaomi has made a big change in the feature addition list with the addition of the Portrait Mode for both dual and single-camera smartphones. For those who are not aware, these modes have actually been available on selfie cameras on devices such as Huawei P20 Pro and the Pixel 2, along with the iPhone X.

Also along with this portrait photos, it would seem that the Chinese smartphone maker has also brought in some new changes to the UI of its notifications and settings menu. There have been tweaks for supporting the 18:9 style aspect ratio display. As such, the recent menu is said to take advantage of taller screens as there will be a vertically scrolling menu, that will also have the full-screen gestures to switch apps and close them.

Also in an obvious attempt to copy iPhone X, it would seem that users will also have more options after they have had the recent menu giving the ability to lock the phone and also clear cache.

Power-hungry AI features

There are also some AI enhancements that will be seen in the phone, such as the Xiaomi AI voice assistant which will to conduct voice commands, The phone will be able to allocate resources appropriately so that you don’t run out of memory for running your favourite apps.

To be clear – the phones from Xiaomi, especially the lower-end Redmi series, which do not have the required amount of RAM will not get this feature. Also, Xiaomi is adding some new nature sounds as part of its new notifications alert update in the MIUI 10. There are different natural tones to choose from such as desert wind, water drops, forest sounds and more.
