OnePlus is of course, the Shenzhen-based Chinese smartphone brand know for producing high-end phones with competitive pricing.
Continuing its ‘flagship killer’ set of smartphones, OnePlus is gearing up for its upcoming phone launch the OnePlus 6T. Amazon India has listed the device with coming soon tag and even has a landing page. There’s also a ‘Notify Me’ button that allows users to sign up to receive notifications regarding the new smartphone.
TV commercials for the 6T are being aired staring Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan. The ad emphasises on ‘speed’ and the in-display fingerprint reader. The advertisement also glorifies the in-display FP scanner as ‘a cooler way to unlock your phone.’
No Headphone Jack
OnePlus CEO Carl Pei recently confirmed that the company’s next device will be omitting the 3.5mm headphone jack. OnePlus has always taken pride in keeping the audio jack intact but this decision has left OnePlus fans upset.
According to OnePlus the reason behind such a big decision is its survey which concluded that 59% of OnePlus users own wireless headphones. Carl, also said that the lack of jack is not just for the sake of doing it and because everyone else is. The decision was taken with a lot of planning and thinking said the Co-founder
OnePlus will launch the 6T with some incremental upgrades on camera, display, and other aspects of the phone. The general spec-sheet includes the latest and greatest from Qualcomm – the Snapdragon 845. As stated, an earlier in-display fingerprint is set to make a debut. As seen on many devices, the use of a triple set of cameras is becoming a common feature, and this could be true for OnePlus as well on the 6T.
The phone is expected to pack a 6.4-inch AMOLED display panel with a water-droplet style notch. As the rumours suggest, the 6T should come with 8 GB of RAM and Android 9.0 (Pie) out of the box. OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei also said that ditching the 3.5mm jack has freed up more space for a bigger battery.
Last but not the least – the pricing. OnePlus is expected to price the 6T around the 40,000 INR mark. OnePlus fans are gutted due to fact that there will be no headphone jack on the 6T, and they have expressed their displeasure on various forums such as Reddit. OnePlus also has stiff competition from rival brand Xiaomi with their new Poco F1. All these factors considered, OnePlus may have a long road ahead. But so far, it’s always seemed to have delivered.
