Nokia has been on a roll lately, with many of its devices actually making a lot of noise in the tech world. Last year Nokia made a comeback with the Nokia 3, 5 and 6 smartphones in India.
Though the reception they received might be considered a bit lukewarm at the time, the products have definitely picked up steam over the months. Very recently as well, at the MWC, Nokia showcased some great and beautiful smartphones which really set the bar for other smartphone makers.
The phones in question were the Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus and the 2018 version of the Nokia 6 smartphone. However, these devices were priced a bit high when compared to what the Indian market actually demands. When understanding the Indian demographic, smartphone makers have to realise that most Indians prefer to buy budget to mid-range smartphones.
To that end, Nokia did release the Nokia 2 smartphone in India, but it was quickly demolished by the competition from Chinese smartphone makers. Now Nokia is taking a stab at the entry level market with the launch of is Android Go powered Nokia 1 smartphone.
India’s First Android Go Smartphone
Nokia 1 is India’s first Android Go smartphone, meaning that the device runs on an optimised version of Android Oreo which was specially built for phones which do not have a lot of RAM or storage options. Nokia had first unveiled at MWC 2018 in Barcelona.
As a matter of fact, HMD Global, which owns the Nokia brand, has said that the Nokia 1 will be coming with plastic Xpress-on covers. These covers were first seen on the older feature phones. With the new ones you can easily swap the original Nokia 1 cover and give the phone a make-over on the move.
