Very recently, HMD Global, the Finnish company which currently is holding the exclusive rights to make Nokia-branded smartphones announced the launch of its latest smartphone. It is being called the Nokia 7. The phone has been currently launched in the Chinese market exclusively.
The Nokia 7 has joined the lineup of HMD Global’s Android-powered Nokia handsets but it happens to be the first Nokia smartphone that has a glass back. The company has given out the price tag of the device starting from CNY 2,499 (approx Rs 25,000) for the 4 GB RAM variant up to CNY 2,699 (approx Rs 27,000) for the 6 GB RAM variant.
The Nokia 7 will be going up on sale starting from 24 October in China. Nokia however, has not announced the pricing and availability details for other countries at the time of writing. The Nokia 7 comes with a 7000-series aluminum frame which sits alongside a diamond-cut bevelled edge body and the glass back has been vacuum moulded with the 3D Corning Gorilla Glass. The phone also comes with IP 54 certification which makes it splash-proof. The phone will be available in Gloss Black and Matte White colours at the moment however, the company may be launching other colours also.
The Nokia 7 in terms of internal hardware, will be sporting an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor clocked which will be clocked at 2.2 GHz paired alongside the Adreno 508 GPU. The phone comes in a 4 GB or 6 GB RAM variant options. It is also equipped with 64 GB of internal storage which can be expanded using a microSD card. The smartphone has a 5.2-inch FHD IPS LCD display which is encased in a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection sheet. It will be running on the Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. Also it has been confirmed by HMD Global that the phone will be getting an Android Oreo update soon.
In terms of optics, the Nokia 7 sports a 16 MP rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a dual-tone LED flash unit. At the front of the phone, you get a 5 MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture with 1.4 micron pixel size. The Nokia 7 also has a Zeiss imaging experience which lets you capture Bothies — a feature where the front and rear cameras can be used simultaneously and was first introduced in the Nokia 8. The phone also has with Nokia OZO audio built in for recording sound similar to the one used in the Nokia 8.
The Nokia 7 has several connectivity options like the Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS with A-GPS, USB Type-C port, NFC, 3.5mm Audio jack and LTE Cat 6 support. There is also a fingerprint sensor on the rear side just under the primary camera.
