The Nokia 7 was launched in China back in November to some mixed reviews. Some appreciated the screen and camera, but others criticised the battery and performance of the phone. Nokia has always been known to mitigate user problems and doing it skillfully. In line with this, we are hearing rumours of an upgraded version being called as the Nokia 7 Plus.
Nokia 7 Plus: Early Hints
The first time we learnt of this new Nokia 7 Plus phone was last actually last year when the Finnish company unlocked the Nokia Camera app and then finally unpacked it. Inside we could see that the app had a list of Nokia phones, and some of those have already been released and there are some others which are yet to be announced. The phone was then given more credibility and was immediately followed by a Geekbench listing last week.
A week or so ago we saw some more specification details leaked online, providing us with more info about the upcoming device.
Now the spec list says that the Nokia 7 Plus is going to have a massive 6” display and we can say that it should be fitting nicely in the hands because of the 18:9 aspect ratio. Also, depending on how soon it launches, the Nokia 7 Plus could actually be HMD Global’s first full-screen smartphone. That can be contested only by the upcoming flagship Nokia 9.
However, unlike the Nokia 7 which possessed a 16MP rear camera, we can see that the Nokia 7 Plus will actually have dual cameras in a 12MP + 13MP configuration and on top of that they will come with Carl Zeiss lens. For selfies, there’s a big package as the phone packs in a 16MP sensor made with a Carl Zeiss lens and a professional shooting mode.
As for other hardware features as mentioned earlier, the phone will include a metal body, and a ceramic rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Following the Nokia 8, the phone is going to have 360° spatial audio technology (along with Nokia OZO) which brings 3 audio capturing microphones, 18W quick charge support, along with Android 8.0 Oreo pre-installed and also there is a planned upgrade to Android 8.1.
As per the report and leaks at the moment there is no mention of the battery and storage capacities. However, seeing the Geekbench listing we can say that the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 660 alongside 4GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. Also, the pricing of the device is not known but we presume it will begin at about $300 or more.
The upcoming MWC event in Barcelona could be the perfect launching event for the Nokia 7 Plus. However, Nokia could scrap the launch and instead unveil the Nokia 9. We just have to wait and see.
