Over the past few years, India has become the hotbed for countless dating apps. Although the interface of these apps remains quite similar in layout. Rows and columns of men and women uploading selfies painted with the modern-day blessing, aka the that’s photo filters.
As the near-constant use of smartphones proliferates and as people grow more comfortable with disclosing their location, a new class of mobile dating applications is emerging. This exploding market is of the mobile device based dating apps like Tinder and TrulyMadly.
Unlike the dating websites of yore, with endless profiles to browse and lengthy messages to compose, newer apps offer a sense of immediacy and simplicity.
These device based dating apps are taking India extremely seriously. One of the apps – TrulyMadly, was launched in 2014. It has scored nearly 1.5 million downloads.
The company claims that 35 per cent of its userbase are women. Also, it was able to raise over Rs 35 crore from investors in 2015. But heavy-hitter Tinder believes India could become its largest market globally after being the number one in Asia.
In an interview, Tinder’s Head of Marketing for India claimed that online dating and mobile-first social networks are exploding; rendering Tinder with a daily score of 14 million ‘swipes’ in India alone.
The concept of Tinder is simple and easy to understand which is why it is gaining an enormous amount of traction for the youth of the country. Interestingly enough the response from tier 2 and 3 cities have been extraordinary, with over 45 percent of the traffic for TrulyMadly coming from their end.
Going forward, expect more Indians to take over these dating apps by storm. While you witness this, mind joining in yourself?
