Facebook’s mobile app is notorious for draining away your battery and consuming tons of data every month. Acknowledging this issue, the company came up with a new app called Facebook Lite. Lite delivers the essentials of the Facebook experience and significantly reduces the amount of the data and the battery that it consumes compared to the regular Facebook app.
Size < 1MB
Facebook Lite is less than 1MB in size, and pretty zippy to install and quick to load, Facebook explains. It also includes Facebook’s core experiences like News Feed, status updates, photos, notifications and more.
For now, the app will be rolling out in countries across Asia and will be available in parts of Latin America, Africa and Europe. North American availability was announced earlier this year. The app is a welcome bonus to Facebook users in the United States, where the original app is known for battery issues.
Essential Features Covered
Antivirus software firm AVG regularly ranks the worst mobile apps for your phone’s battery and its overall performance, and for that reason Facebook has always been one of the worst offenders. What makes these sorts of issues particularly egregious is the fact that you really don’t need to use Facebook’s app to get the solid experience with Facebook on your phone.
For the most part, you can do well with almost all the functions by accessing Facebook through your phone’s mobile browser, and this won’t clog up your storage or eat through your monthly data limits or drain your phone’s battery.
