The mind-boggling scenario of every Chinese smartphone maker copying Apple shamelessly is here to stay. Everyone is aware of the Apple iPhone X notch which received quite a lot of criticism from fans. However, it was one of the most optimal ways of having a higher screen-to-body ratio while not compromising on the front-facing camera and the sensors. The Chinese seem to agree.
Vivo Jumps On The Notch Bandwagon
The very first phone to come with such a setup was the Asus ZenFone 5 series so we can assume that all phone makers will start the copy process. As such Vivo had been making quite the news in new smartphone innovation processes through its under the display fingerprint sensors and more.
However, it has also chosen the path to iPhone notch copy making. The Vivo V9 has been leaking for quite some time. The phone was already touted as the successor for the popular Vivo V7 Plus smartphone. Vivo has done quite a lot to capitalize on the under Rs 25,000 market and is currently the top-selling smartphone maker in that category.
The V9 has an official release date for 24 March, and it is expected to be priced at Rs 22,000. As we just mentioned, he phone will have an iPhone X style notch along with vertically aligned dual-cameras on the back of the device.
However, the Vivo V9 has an impressive screen-to-body ratio of nearly 90 percent. This is quite unprecedented in mobile terms as there is no phone which that much screen on its front. Vivo has also been promoting what could be its first AI powered camera. The phone has some kind of AI face recognition on that front notch, however, it is quite obvious that it is not as sophisticated as the technology found in the iPhone X.
Under the hood, we are going to find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 SoC along with just a single variant of 6 GB RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. Now we can see that the Redmi Note 5 Pro has better hardware specs for a lower price. However, what sets the Vivo V9 apart is the fact the phone is better in terms of the optics.
In the camera department, the phone should sport a dual-camera setup which has 13 MP + 5 MP setup and on the front the phone has a 24 MP selfie camera which is sure to take some breathtaking selfies. We can also assume that the front facing camera will have AI face recognition and face filters like the one seen on Apple’s Animoji or Samsung’s less attractive ARemojis.
The phone will have a 3,400 mAH battery and a3.5 mm jack, GPS, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi and dual 4 VoLTE connectivity options. Vivo has tied up with all major e-commerce giants in the past for its sales like Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal and it can be assumed that this time will also be same.
