Vivo has been quite prominent in the tech world for numerous reasons. It is a booming tech company that began quite a few years ago and has established itself as one of the leading players in the Chinese market and also in India. It won’t be inaccurate to say that the smartphones being launched by Vivo are serving as inspirations to other device makers.
As it so happened at the CES 2018 back in January, a phone called the Vivo X21 was unveiled for the first time. What was not known about the device was the fact that another variant of the device has just been announced in China. It can be expected that this device will also make its way to India.
The speciality of this device is that it has an under-the-display fingerprint sensor which is actually integrated inside the screen of the device. This has never been attempted in any device before this, and chances are that very few phones coming out this year will be privvy to this kind of technology.
This technology has been called ClearID and has been developed by biometric authentication company called as Synaptics. The primary advantage of this technology is that it provides a lot of real estate for the display on the phone’s front without placing the fingerprint sensor on the back.
As for the specifications of this device, the Vivo X21 comes has a 6.28-inch full-screen Super AMOLED display alongside a resolution of 1,080 x 2,280 pixels.
On the hardware front, we have an octa-core Snapdragon 660 SoC which also has a dedicated AI core. The phone also has the Adreno 512 GPU, and 6 GB of RAM. There are two storage options namely 3 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage while the X21 with the under-the-display fingerprint reader only comes with the latter storage option.
In terms of software, we can expect that the phone is going to pack in the Android 8.1 Oreo overlayed which will have Vivo’s Funtouch OS 4.0 launcher overlaying it and the phone will be powered by a 3,200 mAh battery with fast-charging support. The X21 will come in Aurora White, Ruby Red, and Black colours.
The phone also has a very noticeable notch on the top, where we can find the option to fill in light and also a 12 MP front-facing camera. These both can function for facial authentication using 3D mapping and it is being called Face Wake 2.0.
In the camera department, the X21 has a dual-camera setup on the back with a 12MP and f/1.8 aperture main sensor and also a 5 MP and f/2.4 aperture secondary sensor for various background effects.
The phone is being sold in China only currently for a price of 2,898 CNY or approx Rs 30,000. When it makes it way to India, are you going to upgrade? Remember to sell your smartphone on Cashify when you do!
