Vivo is recently gaining reputation for bringing in a lot of smartphone innovation to the world. It was after all, the first smartphone maker to introduce the under-the-display fingerprint sensor in its smartphone, which was the Vivo X21 UD.
The smartphone used a Synaptics ClearID sensor which was embedded in the display. At the MW 2018 event held in Barcelona, Vivo had unveiled the Vivo APEX smartphone which had an astounding 97 percent screen to body ratio. Along with this, it had a massive under-the-screen fingerprint sensor which spanned nearly one-third of the screen.
AI In Cameras
Back in March, it launched its iPhone copycat, Vivo V9. The phone had a notch on the top like the iPhone X and also had vertically aligned dual-camera systems. However, Vivo has also launched another smartphone in April called the Vivo Y71 which had a special AI-enabled front camera.
The phone is also bezelless, and has a screen-to-body ratio of over 84 percent. The Vivo Y71 was available at retail stores starting 14 April and on the Vivo e-store, Flipkart, Amazon India and Paytm Mall from 16 April.
The primary features of the Vivo Y71 include the face-unlock ability which can be considered to be as fast as the OnePlus 5. In the hardware department, the phone has a Snapdragon 425 processor which is coupled alongside 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. The phone also happens to have an expandable storage option to up to 128 GB.
The phone has 6-inch IPS LCD screen which has an 18:9 aspect ratio. The phone also has a 2.5D curved glass protecting the body. In the camera department, the phone has 13 MP rear camera which comes with PDAF and an aperture of f/2.2. In the front, the AI enabled selfie camera has a 5 MP sensor with fixed focus.
The smartphone has a 3,360 mAh battery and software wise the phone would be running on the Android Oreo 8.1 operating system (OS). Along with this the phone also has dual 4G VoLTE SIM support along with Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi and GPS capabilities.
The phone from Vivo would most certainly be facing a lot of competition from the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro, both of which have a processor that can outclass the Vivo Y71 quite easily. Apart from that, they both have better cameras and also come with a much bigger battery.
Are You Buying?
So it really begs the question as to why Vivo would launch such a device that can be so easily outclassed by Xiaomi. It would seem that the answer to that question can be given only by Vivo. The phone began shipping on 25th April. If you’re going to get yourself one, remember to sell your old device on Cashify!
