The gaming smartphone industry is in its very nascent stages at the moment. There aren’t many competitors in the market except for the Razer phone which, to be fair, is currently the only phone which is being marketed as a gaming phone.

Gaming Phones Are Trending

The OnePlus 5T with its massive 8 GB of RAM and the Asus ZenFone AR are other competitors who can claim that their device has gaming related functions. However, it would seem that now Xiaomi has also come into the same category. Though Xiaomi launched a massive variant of the Mi Mix 2S, with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, it would seem that the Chinese smartphone maker isn’t done.

Called Black Shark gaming phone, this originates from a Xiaomi-backed gaming company which has the same name. It can be said that the Black Shark gaming smartphone features a radical design and some very impressive internal hardware. Though not unheard of, these specs come alongside a revolutionary cooling system that does not let the processor get overclocked or heated during intense gaming sessions. The phone is priced at 2,999 CNY which is approximately Rs 35,000

Accessories & Specs

A gaming phone is nothing without the proper gaming hardware and so Xiaomi has also announced alongside the gaming smartphone a Bluetooth gaming controller, priced at 179 Yuan. Xiaomi says that the controller would allow the user to take full advantage of the mobile gaming experience that is offered by the device. The first 50,000 orders will get this GamePad for free.

As per various reports, the smartphone has dimensions of 161.6 x 75.4 x 9.25 mm and also weighs about 190 grams. In the front we see that the device has a rounded appearance which makes it almost look like a pebble. On the back Xiaomi has given a very aggressive and angular design that gives it a sporty, gaming laptop-like look and feel.

Design

While we are talking about the design, it can be noted that the angular X-shaped design present on the back doubleup as X-shaped antenna design. This may not seem like a big deal but Xiaomi has said that this ensures that the users do not lose signal when holding the device horizontally and vertically.

Coming now to the sides of the phone we can see that there is a dedicated button which is called the “Shark Key”. Pressing this would allow users to go to the SharkZone directly. The fingerprint reader sits at the bottom part of the bezel and also acts as a home button.

In terms of specs, the phone has a Snapdragon 845 SoC, a 4,000 mAh battery and the option of expandable storage. The phone also comes with a type-C reversible connector which can charge the phone fully in 80 minutes while 0-80 percent charge goes happens in 20 minutes flat. It is quite clear with these aesthetics, the phone is going to be in heavy contention with the Razer phone and the likes. Good luck to Xiaomi, and to you if you’re buying one. Just remember to sell your current smartphone on Cashify before you upgrade!
