When Xiaomi announced the launch of the Redmi 4, it had its task cut out. Its predecessor, the Redmi 3s, had enjoyed phenomenal success. Selling 4 million units since its launch last year, it helped the company become India’s second largest smartphone brand.

Market impact

Now, with the Redmi 4’s announcement last month, the company has claimed that one million units have been sold. During the first sale on May 23, a reported 2.5 lakh units had been sold.

The success of the Redmi 4 is certainly in part, due to its specifications. The phone has an all-metal unibody design and a 5 inch HD display. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 435, it comes in three different storage options: 2 GB RAM, 16 GB storage; 3 GB RAM, 32 GB storage; 4 GB RAM, 64 GB storage. Coming to the camera, it sports a 13 MP primary camera, with a respectable 5 MP front camera too. A good battery life is also a given with a 4100mAh battery.

The competitive pricing has ensured plenty of takers for the Redmi 4, with the 2 GB variant priced at Rs 6999, the 3 GB variant at Rs 8999 and the 4 GB variant at Rs 10999.
