This was Xiaomi’s very first appearance at MWC and the company itself had a couple of interesting announcements to make at the event.
The Mi 9
The first was the global launch of the Mi 9 smartphone for audiences outside China. No Indian release date has been revealed so far. The Mi 9 flagship series smartphones have been announced at a starting price of 449 Euros, keeping in mind that the phones come with nearly all the latest flagship features and more.
Xiaomi has launched three colour variants of the device, which are Lavender Violet, Ocean Blue, and Piano Black. The sale of these devices will start from 28 February in many countries of Europe.
In terms of design and specs, the phone has a 6.39-inch Samsung-made Super AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. There is also a waterdrop-notch on the device which is for the first time by Xiaomi.
Inside the device, we see a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset along with a starting 6 GB of RAM and it can go up to 8 GB. Internal storage is fixed at 128 GB and 256 GB. The Mi 9 also features a hardware shortcut key to pull up an AI voice assistant of choice. Although the Mi 9 is not actually 5G ready as the phone does not feature an X55 modem required for high through output.
The Mi 9 also comes with a triple-camera setup which has a 48 MP primary camera, a 12 MP telephoto lens with 2X optical zoom and a 16 MP ultra-wide angle camera with a field-of-view of 117 degrees.
The Mi Mix 3 5G
However, that was not all that Xiaomi had announced. Back in November, the company had announced the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 smartphone. Now they unveiled the Mi Mix 3 5G smartphone at MWC 2019 and it will begin shipping from May.
The new Mi Mix 3 is similar to the Mi Mix 3 launched earlier with the design, display, and specs. However, the Mix 3 5G comes with the Snapdragon 855 and X55 Modem that supports 5G. Xiaomi also claimed to have done the very first 5G video call in the world.
Xiaomi’s Mi Mix 3 5G is priced at 599 Euros and it has support for QuickCharge 4 Plus. The Mi Mix 3 5G also gets a 3,800 mAh battery unit that supports Quick Charge 3.0. There is only one colour option available for the Mi Mix 3 5G.
