India’s MeitY is now issuing fresh notices to make a permanent ban on Chinese apps. According to reports, the Government is issuing permanent bans on video app TikTok India and 58 other Chinese apps. However, if we recall, these apps banned by the government in June 2020.

TikTok Ban Permanent?
Earlier, the government asked for responses from all the companies banned on their data collection. Moreover, how the information is used. It appears that the government is not in satisfaction with the response. In addition, they also issued a notice last week, according to reports. The companies including TikTok India, Tencent Holdings’ WeChat, and Alibaba’s UC Browser were also to respond to a list of questions. It’s also unclear what this announcement means to the hundreds of people employed by ByteDance (parent company) in India.

On the other hand, the company responds with a statement to reporters.
“We are evaluating the notice and will respond to it as appropriate. TikTok was among the first companies to comply with the government of India directive issued on June 29, 2020. We continually strive to comply with local laws and regulations and do our best to address any concerns the government may have. Ensuring the privacy and security of all our users remains to be our topmost priority.”TikTok to Mint
However, according to sources, “The government is not in satisfaction with the response/explanation from these companies. Hence, the ban for these 59 apps is permanent now”. It said the notices came in issuance last week.

This does not bode well for the other apps which are banned over the course of 2020 — over 200 by the end of the year. Even hugely popular smartphone game PUBG Mobile attempted to remedy the situation by launching a new, India-only version. However, MeitY is giving no permissions as of now to the company.
