LG K11 Plus

LG is back at it again with a decent mid-range smartphone, one for the average middle class user, who doesn’t demand the high end processing power of the OnePlus 6, nor the excellent camera capabilities of the Apple iPhone X.

Key Features

Running on the Android Nougat v7.1.2 out of the box, the K11 plus offers some nice features for the price point. An octa core processor coupled with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage means that the device is capable of churning out enough juice to get you through simple multitasking, and also run a few games for when you feel like playing.

A 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP Selfie shooter adorn the phone, and both are decent enough to get the job done. At a price range of about INR 15000, this isn’t the most value for money phone out there, but it does promise some bang for your buck.

So, should you be splurging your money on the LG K11 plus?

For starters, the feature combination that it houses is enough for the average person to have all of his/her needs satisfied. It may not fulfil the needs and desires of power hungry users, but what it does possess is a nice combination of style, performance, and durability.

For a similar price range, however, better options do exist in the market. Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi is releasing quite a few competitive devices these days, and any of those is enough to give the LG K11 plus a run for its money.

You can definitely buy the K11 plus, but it wouldn’t hurt to look at a few other options in the market.

Expert Opinion

LG is back at it again with a decent mid-range smartphone, one for the average middle class user, who doesn’t demand the high end processing power of the OnePlus 6, nor the excellent camera capabilities of the Apple iPhone X.

A 5.3 inch screen with 1280 by 720 pixels resolution graces the K11 plus handset. It is an IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, with 16 million colours, and a respectable 69.2% screen to body ratio. The display also supports multitouch input, of up to 5 fingers.

The phone is considerably brighter than its predecessors, by about 9%, though it does not fare well against other phones in the same price range. The display is uniformly bright, however, with the number standing at 93%. In direct sunlight, however, the K11 plus is practically unusable. The reflective finish on the display does nothing to help the K11 plus’s case. The viewing angles are solid, however, thanks to the IPS LCD display.

With black and gold colour options, the K11 plus is contained in a metal case finished off with a silver trim to separate the body from the display. The case is scratch resistant, and is of quite a good build quality. There is a fingerprint sensor and speakers on the rear of the smartphone, the sensor is housed just below the camera and LED flash.

The phone is quite sleek, with a thickness of 8.7 mm. The dual SIM slot supports nano SIMs, with other typical sensors like accelerometer, proximity sensor and compass included.

A MediaTek MT6750 SoC is hidden beneath the body of the K11 plus, which houses both the ARM A53 octa core processor and the ARM Mali T860    MP2 GPU. 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage complete the package, with this feature combo offering a decent amount of power to get through the day’s tasks.

Obviously, the phone cannot compete with the more luxury, flagship-esque devices. The phone struggles to run complex and heavy games, and it’s best if you limit your gaming experience on this phone to a few games of Candy Crush or Clash of Clans.

Casual usage, however, is quite satisfactory, but internal storage read/write speeds are low.

A 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera adorn the K11 plus. The cameras deliver average performance at best, with the front camera only able to deliver decent quality if the phone is kept very still.

Low light performance is an issue with the rear camera, with objects lacking detail. In macro shots, the colours are rich, and the picture quality is far more superior than one would expect. The image stabilizer does a good job for small movements, but is not able to stabilize images or videos beyond that.

The K11 plus is highly power efficient. Under the hood, there is a 3000 mAh lithium ion battery, which is more than enough to power the phone through a day’s regular usage. When compared with other devices, the K11 plus is only eclipsed by devices with a larger battery capacity than the 3000 mAh labelled on the phone.

The included charger powers the phone from 0 to 100 I about 2 hours, which is a decent time considering a lack of quick/fast charge technology. The phone also performs considerably better than its predecessors, the K11 and the K10 range of devices.

The LG K11 plus is a decent-performing smartphone with good features, but nothing extraordinary. It delivers what is to be expected from a mid range smartphone, with the octa core processor and 3 GB RAM helping out in day to day tasks, and the 13 MP rear and 5 MP front camera delivering satisfactory pictures. Where the phone lacks behind its competitors is the value for money, with several other devices in the similar price range or lower presenting a better set of features. The usability of the phone is also hampered in direct sunlight, as stated.

The LG K11 plus is by no means a bad phone, but it isn’t the best mid-range phone either. Look for other devices in this price range before buying the K11 plus.
