A government minister says Elon Musk Starlink will not be a major threat to Indian telecom companies like BSNL. He stated that Starlink can only have 20 lakh (2 million) connections in India due to its current capacity.
The minister, Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, shared this news while talking about BSNL’s future plans. He believes that Starlink’s high cost and limited reach will not affect other telecom services in a big way.
Elon Musk Starlink’s High Cost And Limited Reach
The minister explained why Elon Musk Starlink will have a limited impact. He said the service will be very expensive for most people.
The initial setup cost will be high for the Elon Musk Starlink. On top of that, the monthly bill could be around Rs 3,000. This is much more expensive than current internet plans in the country.
Because of its high price, Starlink will likely target only rural and remote areas where other internet options are not available. This is the same market where BSNL has a strong presence. The service is expected to offer speeds of up to 200 Mbps.

BSNL Focuses On 4G Growth
The minister also gave a positive update on BSNL. He said BSNL’s 4G rollout is now complete. The company does not plan to increase its prices right now because it wants to attract more customers first.
This strategy is working well. BSNL’s revenue grew by 20-30 percent in the first quarter of this year. The company has also fixed most of its old technical problems. They replaced 30,000 power stations, which has made the network more reliable for customers. BSNL is now focused on growing its subscriber base and improving its services.
