Currently, more than 70 million children have not yet updated their Aadhaar biometrics. Kumar emphasized that updating biometrics is mandatory for all individuals aged five and above.

Timely completion of the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) is crucial to ensure the accuracy and reliability of children’s biometric data. As per current regulations, if the MBU is not completed by the time the child turns 7, their Aadhaar number will be deactivated.

    Penalty For Not Updating

If the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) is done after the child turns seven, a fee of ₹100 will be charged for the update. However, the process is free for children between the ages of 5 and 7. A second MBU will be required around the age of 15 to reflect physical changes that impact accuracy. Kumar informed PTI that UIDAI plans to expand the project to include this second update at the age of 15.
