Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 –  Swift Smartphone for everyone but it fails to last long!

Key Features

shareShare with friends

If a Smartphone that has elegant looks and balanced set of specifications to match its dynamic performance, then Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 is your phone. This phone looks great in the hand with a metallic unibody and is a pleasure to operate. With cameras that can offer stunning captures even in low light, features like Samsung Mall that makes shopping fun and quick, and PayMini to make payments easy. In short Galaxy J7 Prime 2 can be user’s delight!

3GB RAM and lightening quick processor makes multitasking effortless and brisk. If that isn’t enough, one can cherish the device maintenance and memory optimization features which give you an edge in Smartphone usage. This phone packs robust performance, catchy looks, camera that offers great details and vivid colours and connectivity like very few phones. With a handsome set of features, this is a phone for everyone, from gaming aficionados to professionals.

Galaxy J7 Prime 2 surprises with its price as compared to the range of features and above average specifications that it offers in all departments. There is little to dislike in the phone with this price tag. However, with a battery that is a bit of a letdown and more balanced phones like Honor 7X and Moto G5 that offer wider range of features and longer battery life, it would be hard for the phone to compete. If value for money is something that you can sacrifice a bit for Samsung experience (and it is worth it!), then this can surely be your phone.

Expert Opinion

Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 –  Swift Smartphone for everyone but it fails to last long!

The 5.5” full HD display at 1080p is impressive. Even though the screen is not the widest, the clarity, sharpness, detail and life-like colours more than make up for that. Brightness is a bit of concern with display and it feels on the eye in the dark. Despite this, watching videos or flipping through photographs can be enjoyable.

Screen Size5.5 inches
Display Resolution1080 x 1920 pixels

Even though the company has tried to impart a classical touch and feel to the phone’s design, we are afraid, it hasn’t succeeded much. The phone looks a bit outdated especially with smartly designed phones in the market in same price bracket. Samsung could have done better than golden aluminum back with white trims! The fingerprint sensor is welcome. It is placed into the home button neighbouring app switch and back button on the phone’s chin. The USB C-port is surprisingly missing, making way for older micro USB. It would have been better if the phone had an edge-to-edge display.

Weight170 g
BuildFront glass, aluminum body, plastic ends

The phone is powered by Exynos 7870 processor which is outdated on paper but competent in real. In fact, the phone can be rated amongst the best in speed, smoothness and multitasking experience within its price bracket. Its performance is pretty much in line with its competitor Moto G5 Plus and much better than ZTE’S Blade V8 Pro. With a processor clocked at just 1.6GHz, this is a pleasant surprise. It needs to be added that the phone isn’t ideal for gaming. (Should we expect that in this price range?) However, the phone will support occasional heavy usage. Regular usage will be hassle free.

RAM/Internal Storage32 GB, 3 GB RAM
Chipset GPExynos 7870 Octa (14 nm)

Galaxy J7 Prime 2 manages to outdo its competitors with a really great camera. The quality of night shots is astounding. Even captures from motion would be noise free and true to real life colours. The exceptional quality of main camera is balanced by a pretty average selfie camera which raises a few question marks on the company’s choice. The 8MP selfie camera is a disaster and fails the expectations miserably.

If selfie camera was not enough, battery might surely discourage the users. It betrays the positives of other departments. Even though it is a 3300 mAh battery, it is surprising that it hardly lasts for half a day. Heavy users may note that this is not a phone for them at all as they might have to plug the phone for charging 4 times a day. To make the matters worse, the fast charging feature is missing as well.

Battery Capacity3300 mAh
Battery TypeLi-Ion

There are areas where the phone does exceptionally good and there are areas where it is dismal. With the great main camera quality and pleasing display, it feels that Samsung should have put in more effort with battery and atleast an average selfie camera. If there is something that keeps the phone from being an utmost disaster, then that’s cool performance which just about makes for its drawbacks.
