Google Brings Ask Google Pay: A New Kind Of Feature You Must Interact With

Google has announced two major additions to Google Pay in India with the launch of Ask Google Pay and the new Google Pay Flex SBI Card. Powered by Gemini AI, Ask Google Pay enables users to interact with their finances using text or voice, offering spending insights, budgeting assistance, and explanations of financial concepts such as SIPs, credit scores, and tax regimes.

The feature supports 10 Indian languages and is opt-in, with personalised insights available only after user consent.

Alongside the AI assistant, Google has partnered with SBI Card to introduce the fully digital Google Pay Flex SBI Card on RuPay and Visa networks. The card offers instant digital onboarding, flexible repayment options, rewards through "Stars", and UPI-enabled credit payments, further expanding Google's financial services ecosystem in India.

What This Move Means For The Future Of Google’s Financial Goal?

Analysts believe these moves indicate Google wants Google Pay to become an "AI-powered financial super app" over the next few years. However, there is no evidence yet of Google becoming a full-fledged bank or launching standalone banking services in 2027. Its strategy appears focused on expanding through partnerships with banks and the UPI ecosystem rather than entering banking directly.
