MediaTek Helio G88, G96 4G SoC for Budget Smartphones Launched

  • Chipmaker MediaTek announces its two new addition in chipsets – MediaTek Helio G96 and MediaTek G88 SoC. They have launched these two new chipsets for the upcoming budget and mid-range smartphones. Moreover, both of these chipsets offer support for up to  120Hz Full-HD+ displays. In addition, both the SoCs come with MediaTek’s HyperEngine 2.0 Lite game technology. Let us take a look at what each chipset offer in terms of its features:

    Helio G96 SoC Features

    The chipset offers support for 120Hz displays with up to Full-HD+ resolution, unlike MediaTek Helio G88 SoC. The display supposedly lacks any sort of limitation when it comes to DDIC supply. Especially C-phy or D-phy interface with the SoC. It also supports LCD and AMOLED displays.

    Moreover, the Helio G96 also features two Arm Cortex-A76 CPUs that can operate at up to 2.05GHz. There is also  LPDDR4X memory and UFS 2.2 storage. It supports 108MP cameras so as to offer the most detailed images and fast Cat-13 4G LTE WorldMode modem integration. Additionally, it also supports dual 4G SIM and VoLTE and ViLTE services, topped off with MediaTek’s Intelligent Resource Management Engine and Networking Engine. Although both MediaTek Helio G88 SoC and G96 SoC have MediaTek’s HyperEngine 2.0 generation technology.

    Unlike G96 SoC, it supports a 90Hz display refresh rate. Moreover, the octa-core CPU features two Arm Cortex-A75 CPUs operating at up to 2.0GHz. The Helio G88 offers support for up to 64-MP main cameras. It also offers support for a hardware depth engine for dual-camera bokeh captures, a Camera Control Unit (CCU), Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS), and Rolling Shutter Compensation (RSC) technologies. Helio G88 comes with integrated voice wakeup for voice assistant services.

    Meanwhile, as mentioned above both the SoCs have MediaTek’s HyperEngine 2.0 generation technology. To explain it better, it is said to intelligently manage CPU, GPU, and memory to enable a smooth gaming experience. Moreover, it also claims to help in power saving during high FPS gaming to extend battery life. The technology is said to enable intelligent prediction of Wi-Fi and 4G connection concurrency in both MediaTek Helio G88 SoC and G96 SoC.
