WhatsApp is now working on a brand new option for the Disappearing Messages function. To recall, this feature came with a choice to enable the feature to destruct the messages after 7 days. However, the company is now working on adding a 90-day option for the feature. Moreover, it can come alongside an option for doing so every 24 hours. The messaging service is still not offering a customisable option to users like Telegram and Signal.

Although one should note that when you turn on the feature, WhatsApp displays a message in the chat. It says “You turned on disappearing messages. New Messages will disappear after XXX days”.

WhatsApp is testing a new time limit setting of 90 days

WhatsApp originally introduced the Disappearing Messages feature in November last year. However, new options to this feature are in the works. As per a report by WhatsApp features tracker WABetaInfo, Android beta version 2.21.17.16 carries references for the option to disappear messages after 90 days. A screenshot also shared by WABetaInfo suggests the 90 days option will come alongside the existing option to auto-delete messages after seven days.

In addition, it is also working on the 24-hour option for iOS, Android and Web users for the last few months. The new disappearing messages option is expecting to be currently under development. However, this s not yet available even to the WhatsApp beta testers. Although we can expect it to launch soon.

Meanwhile, there is an option to keep a copy of the messages you have set for disappearing. The recipients can still keep the message by forwarding it to a chat. Similarly, a user can take a screenshot of the disappearing message to save its content before it vanishes. WhatsApp also says that it has made the feature specifically for users communicating with “trusted individuals.”
