Xiaomi Corporation, the Chinese multinational electronics company which has left a mark in the Indian market with its ‘Mi’ brand gadgets, will be letting go of the Mi brand name and would remain as Xiaomi. Mi is tagged not just for mobiles but for TVs, fitness bands and other IoT products. It also holds other brands underneath its name, such as Redmi and Pocco. Mi’s first phone was launched 10 years ago.

The shift in the name from Mi to Xiaomi has already begun with the release of MIX 4. MIX 4 won’t have a Mi tag and will be directly under its parent brand. MIX 4 smartphone will feature an under-display camera. A similar suit will be followed by new devices from now on.

Existing Xiaomi Mi Products

This move isn’t significant for the existing products of Xiaomi as there won’t be any change. It will continue to sell with the Mi branding. This is because, with an extensive range of devices already in the market under Mi, it would be a tough job to change it all. Xiaomi’s Mi smartphones start from the mid-range category and go up to the flagship segment as well. Its budget smartphones are offered under the Redmi branding.

Other brands under Xiaomi like Redmi and Pocco are worth mentioning. Redmi is a common name in India and other Asian countries because of the lower range of smartphones. It is one of the most sought-after brands because of its affordable price tag and attractive features. Poco too comes with premium specs that can often be compared with flagship phones.
