Microsoft Surface Duo

Since 2016, it was rumoured that Microsoft is working on a Surface phone with a dual-screen. Finally, the rumours were true and Microsoft launched the Microsoft Surface Duo, a foldable Android-based smartphone. It was called the best invention of 2020 by the Time Magazine and was made available in the US market, a couple of months before. According to Microsoft, the phone-tablet hybrid promises a modern-day experience that you would expect from any latest smartphone or tablet. 

Microsoft Surface Duo Price in India

Although the Microsoft Surface Duo was unveiled in 2019, there was no clue about its availability in the Global market. Eventually, Microsoft made it available in the US market in 2020 and promised to bring the Microsoft Surface Duo to Germany, France and Canada in February this year. AS for the pricing, the Microsoft Surface Duo was sold initially at $1399 in the US, but after a few weeks, the price dropped to $1199 and in February the price for the Microsoft Surface Duo was $999. Microsoft Surface Duo surprisingly got listed on Amazon India as well for sale where the price is listed as Rs.1,47,990. 

Nowadays, you will see smartphones with flexible displays, but Microsoft Surface Duo comes with a Gorilla Glass-shrouded conventional display with gigantic bezels. The exterior is clothed with white painted glass along with a matte white frame and the continuity is disrupted by a double-barrel, stainless-steel hinge and there is a mirrored Microsoft Logo. The overall size of Microsoft Surface Duo makes it hectic to hold single-handedly. The key feature of the design is its 360-degree rotation, which allows you to use this device in multiple orientations.

This is the exhibition area of Microsoft Surface Duo. The Display measures 8.1-inches in total size and when folded, the screen size reduces to 5.6-inches. There is an AMOLED panel with Gorilla Glass 5 protection along with IP rating and the additional feature includes a resolution of 1800 by 1350 and a pixel density of 401PPI.

Under the hood, Microsoft Surface Duo comes powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and hosts 6GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB of internal storage. This configuration provides an excellent grade of performance and makes Microsoft Surface Duo an absolute powerhouse. Microsoft Surface Duo supports 4G networks and runs on an Android 10 operating system, which is a welcome step from Microsoft after a long time.

The camera section of Microsoft Surface Duo comprises an adaptive 11MP lens with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF and 84.0-degree diagonal FOV optimised with AI for front and rear. With the precise zooming ability and 4K video shooting compatibility, this camera, according to Microsoft, ensures flagship performance. However, there is no selfie camera included with the Microsoft Surface Duo.  

As for the battery, Microsoft Surface Duo carries a 3577 mAh battery under the hood and supports 18W fast charging. Looking at the dual-display and overall configuration of Microsoft Surface Duo, the battery appears insufficient and there should have been a battery with more capacity. For connecting the charger, there is a 3.1, Type-C 1.0 reversible connector.

For those, who are fascinated by a unique design and wish to explore the different possibilities rather than sticking to conventional design, then Microsoft Surface Duo is something to look for. However, there are many flaws in Microsoft Surface Duo and that too at a hefty price tag, which is unacceptable for many users.
