Made-in-India Pixel phone could soon become a reality as Google plans to start manufacturing phones in the country. The Cupertino giant has announced that it will soon start making Pixel phones in India, starting with the Google Pixel 8.

At its Google For India 2023 event, the company announced its plan to start manufacturing Pixel phones in the country as part of the “Make In India” initiative. It will assemble the Pixel 8 in India, with the first units expected to roll out in 2024.

Furthermore, the Mountainview giant will partner with international and domestic manufacturers to produce its Pixel smartphone locally. According to Google, India is a priority market, and it is committed to “bring the best of our hardware and underlying built-in software capabilities to people across the country”.

This will bring Google on par with Samsung and Apple, which manufacture the phones in the country. The onset of locally produced Pixels could potentially reduce their price e as well as improve the availability of spare parts in the country.

Google also claims that it has worked hard to increase its presence in the country through its service centres. It has partnered with F1 Info Solutions to offer 28 service centres across 27 cities. The company plans to further expand the coverage to more locations and cities.

The company has promised to invest over $10 billion in India over the next few years and has partnered with HP to manufacture Chromebooks locally.
Moreover, Google claims it is committed to investing and building its hardware business in India in the long run. It believes the Made In India pixel is an early step in the “long journey of expanding our device production capacity and helping meet the country’s growing demand for Pixel phones”.
