  • Samsung has changed the One UI 9.0 media player. These are the music controls you tap from the status bar and the lock screen. There is no new music app. Samsung just gave the controls you use every day a fresh look, and the change is easy to see once you compare it with the old version. We counted five updates.

5 One UI 9.0 Media Player Changes

The changes come with One UI 9.0. It runs on Android 17 and is in beta right now for the Galaxy S26 series. The controls work with any music app, because they sit in the system itself.

A Colorful Waveform Instead Of A Flat Bar

The first thing you notice is the progress bar. The old one was a plain line with one color. The new One UI 9 media player shows a colorful waveform on both the notification and the lock screen. The color comes from the song’s album art. It looks better, and the wave makes it easier to see how far along the song is.

The Song And Artist Now Share One Line

In the small notification that drops down from the top, the song name and the artist used to sit on two lines. Now they sit on one line. That saved some space. So Samsung made the song title bigger, made the text larger, and gave the timeline more room. You get more at a glance, and you do not have to open anything.

The Buttons Are Now Round In One UI 9.0 Media Player

Look at the play, pause, and skip buttons. They are now round, each with its own background. Before, they sat together inside one long rounded box. It sounds like a small thing. But the round shape makes each button easier to find and tap when you only glance at the screen.

The lock Screen Player Looks New

The biggest change is on the lock screen. Open the music bar and the song name and artist now sit on top of the album art, not below it. This gives the cover art more space. Samsung also removed the box that used to wrap around the controls. With the round buttons and the colorful wave, the lock screen player looks very different from One UI 8.5.

    The Controls Now Move

The last change is one you feel more than see. Play or pause a song, or skip to the next one, and the buttons move with a smooth animation. They no longer just snap on and off. It is a small touch, but it makes the player feel quicker and nicer to use. Early testers on the Samsung Members community noticed it fast.
