The iconic Nokia brand, owned by the Finnish start-up HMD Global dabbles in nostalgia at least once a year. It was 2017 when the iconic Nokia 3310 was launched as a modern classic. Then in 2018, they launched the Nokia 8110, also known as the ‘banana phone’. Last year saw the return of the quintessential flip phone factor with the Nokia 2720 Flip.
Now, it’s 2020 and this year Nokia has chosen to attract young music enthusiasts with the revival of the Nokia 5310. 13 years ago it bore the “XpressMusic” tag. In 2020, it is simply being called the Nokia 5310. It is equipped with features like a 2.4-inch QVGA display, 8MB RAM, 16MB native storage, a VGA camera and a 1,200mAh battery.
Nokia 5310 Price in India
Nokia 5310 is the refreshed version of the ExpressMusic for 2020 and comes packed with great features on an old-school keypad design. Nokia 5310 price in India is Rs.3,999 and is currently available for Rs.3,399 with an additional discount of Rs.600. It is not a smartphone but can be counted as an essential phone and the best in this segment, considering the features.
Nokia is a plastic made a phone with a VGA camera and LED flash at the back, 3.5MM jack above the phone, and USB jack, also above the phone. The front has a 2.4-inch QVGA display with resolution 240×320 and has a default numeric keypad. It also has dual speakers for better sound quality at the top and bottom of the front panel. The left side has volume buttons, and the right side has Music Control buttons.
The Nokia 5310 comes with a TFT 2.4-inch QVGA display with resolution 240×320, 4:3 ratio. Just like the 2007 model.
Why to purchase?
If you are a Nokia lover, and you belong to the old era, you would definitely like this phone because of the nostalgic experience. If you are a Music lover, you would like this phone for the handy features like dedicated music control buttons, volume buttons, and wireless FM radio. It is also useful for people who want a basic secondary phone for calls or to listen to music.
Why not to purchase?
Even though it is a good feature phone, it lacks many features which competitors have at the price less than of Nokia 5310. Taking JioPhone as an example, JioPhone has 4G network connectivity with VoLte support and also WiFi connection, which will definitely attract more customers. Feature phone without required features is useless.
Nokia 5310 features a VGA camera at the back, with a LED flash light.
Nokia 5310 houses a 1200 mAh removable battery which can easily take you through the day, listening to your favourite music.
In a world of WhatsApp, Facebook and YouTube, the least Nokia could have included is 3G, let alone 4G – the standard offering in 2020. Furthermore, unlike Reliance’s Jio Phone 2, there is no Wi-Fi functionality.
The Nokia 5310 is available in just one variant, at Rs 3,399. For reference, Reliance’s Jio Phone 2 is available at Rs 2,999. Basically, Nokia missed the bus by not upgrading certain specifications to what is today’s standards. Playing purely on nostalgia will help sell a couple of phones, but beyond that, the Nokia 5310 is going to struggle. Jio Phone 2 can easily compete with it.
