Samsung Galaxy Note 9

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is not Samsung’s most original looking device to date, as the S9 series, as it bears striking resemblance to the previous generation of Samsung Smartphones. The bezels are slightly slimmer on the newer device as it tries to go for a more sleek look this time around. The fingerprint reader is located below the horizontal camera setup with a heart rate sensor that is now placed to the right of the cameras. This fingerprint sensor is relatively easy to find without looking but is still too high for convenient use. The phone has a shiny glass that gives its luxurious look. With having a large surface area as well it becomes much more likely to break if you don’t have a case. That said it still isIP68 rated and enjoys protection against dust and water. The headphone jack, a USB Type C port and an S-pen can be found at the bottom of the phone. A subtle black pen is provided for the black model while a vibrant yellow is found with a blue coloured model. This phone is a little more unique than any other Note series phones in the past since it enjoys a Bluetooth capable S Pen. On the Note 8, the pen used technology licensed from Wacom and had 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity with very good accuracy. Note 9 surpasses its predecessor.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is a bigger size, a good-looking smartphone with top-tier specs including a massive battery and internal storage. The new Galaxy Note 9 has much similar hardware and cameras as the Galaxy S9 Plus. In our country, the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 price starts from ₹67,900. This smartphone is available in one other variant like 8GB RAM with 512GB Storage. Here the colour options like Alpine White, Lavender Purple, Lavender Purple, Metallic Copper, Midnight Black, and Ocean Blue.

The divisive curved edges on the side of the screen are still there, but considering how large the phone is, it’s very easy to ignore them. The speaker quality is excellent and they’re substantially louder than the one on the Note 8 (2017). This is, however, the first Note with stereo speakers. You’ll find one on the bottom and one that doubles as the earpiece. When you hold the phone in portrait mode, the bottom driver covers bass and the earpiece covers treble, however, in landscape mode, they switch to the left and right channels respectively. With headphones, there’s virtually no distortion and for an even more vibrant sound and a wider soundstage you can turn on the Dolby Atmos setting. It’s been updated and now offers the choice of optimizations for movies, music and voice commands.

The Super AMOLED screen is a massive 6.4 inches and has an excellent qHD resolution. Since the resolution is very high many of the wallpapers available on popular apps look fuzzy, it might happen that you waste a lot more time searching for higher resolution photos because your phone clearly deserves better. Colours are extremely accurate in all of the colour modes, except in the default adaptive display mode, where they’re a little bit more vivid. The Note 9 screen reaches a peak brightness of 658 nits ascertaining there should be no major issues with legibility outdoors.

The Galaxy Note 9 comes with either the Snapdragon 845 or the Exynos 9810, which are the same chipsets available on the S9 dual and both chipsets can handle heavy multitasking and heavy apps without a slowdown. The Note 9 supports Android Pi and has a game launcher that’s convenient for organizing games that would otherwise clutter your app drawer. The gallery has some basic editing software and offers some presets. On the left side of the phone, you can still find the dedicated Bixby button. The virtual assistant seems to have been upgraded or at least has received the capabilities for new animations and some new options.

The Note 9 has two 12 MP cameras on the back. One is the telephoto camera that allows for optically stabilized 2x optical zoom and the other is the main snapper with a variable aperture. In daylight images are rich with detail, are noise-free and have much more natural colours than on previous Galaxy phones. Auto HDR allows for a wider dynamic range though, the scene optimizer occasionally makes it more contrasting. The telephoto camera is quite good with good colours and plenty of detail, though it has slightly less contrast in the main snapper. In low-light photos look good, there’s no desaturation and dynamic range seems to have improved.

The front camera is an 8 MP one with an f1.7 aperture which has remained unchanged since the Galaxy S8. The photos are good, offer plenty of detail and nice colours. The front-facing camera has no front-facing flash but the light of the screen can often be enough to illuminate your face in low-light conditions. Like the S9, the Note 9 supports 4k and 1080p video recording at 60 frames per second. 4k videos are detailed, free of noise, the colours are great and the contrast and white balance come out well.

The phone has both EIS and OIS making the footage nicely stabilized, however, it can look artificial when you try panning shots. 1080p videos also, exhibit practically the same qualities as they are quite sharp with plenty of detail but, other than that they have the same essentials, great dynamic range, accurate colours, white balance and high contrast.

The Note 9 received a very good 97-hour endurance rating for its battery life, owing to its 4,000 mAH battery. This is one of the biggest batteries Samsung has had in its phone to date and it’s 500 mAH larger than the infamous Galaxy Note 7.

However, since that Fiasco, Samsung has created a series of safety checks to make sure none of their phones explodes again.

The Note 9 is a beast of a phone which has many features and options that it would literally take hours to get through them all. However it’s missing two things that might be deal-breakers for some people, there is neither an IR blaster nor an FM radio. Also, there’s a little bit too much overlap between this and the Galaxy Note 8. This begs the question that if you already have that phone there’s really no point in upgrading unless you’re desperate for extra battery life. However, if money is not an issue or you have an older phone this is easily the best Android phone out there right now so it is an easy recommendation.
