With its headquarters in China, TCL has made its name by developing, designing and manufacturing products like air conditioners, washing machines and small electric appliances. Apart from that, there are multiple smartphones under its name. Now the smartphone manufacturing company has launched a new device, the TCL 20 SE on January 12, belonging to the budget-range. The smartphone promises a large display, a good photography experience and huge battery backup at a reasonable cost.

TCL 20 SE is all set to take over a position in the mid-range segment. The expected price of TCL 20 SE in India is Rs.13,990.

The front side of the smartphone is covered fully by a large 6.82-inch display, featuring a V-shaped notch along with a bottom bezel. TCL 20 SE is mounted with a quad-camera setup on the rear side in a rectangular-shaped module along with an LED flash, giving a fancy look to the device. There is a fingerprint sensor on the rear side of the smartphone and the back panel with gradient finish is made of plastic material.

The physical dimensions of the TCL 20 SE measure 172.08mm in length, 77.14mm in width and 9.1mm thick and the device weighs around 206 grams, making this smartphone heavy to handle. The large weight is due to the 5000 mAh battery under the hood.

Furthermore, on the right side, there is a volume rocker and a power button, while the bottom side comes with a Type-C charging port and speaker grille. On the left side, there is space for the Google assistant button and the top side features a 3.5mm headphone jack.

TCL 20 SE hosts a 6.82-inch V-notch HD+ display with IPS technology. The display features a resolution of 720 pixels and a pixel density of 263PPI. Also, the display comes with a peak brightness of 263PPI and a screen-to-body ratio of 90%. With HD+ resolutions and low pixel density, the visuals won’t be sharp enough as compared to FHD+ screen.

For powering the smartphone, TCL 20 SE boasts the Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 SoC under the hood, which is an octa-core processor. For graphics, there is Adreno 610 GPU and for maintaining smooth performance, the device comes with 4GB RAM along with 64GB/128GB internal UFS 2.1 storage, which can be extended up to 256GB via microSD card.

TCL 20 SE runs on the company’s own UI based on Android 11 to provide a user-friendly interface. As for the connectivity, the smartphone is compatible with 4G networks, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC7, GPS, A-GPS, BeiDou, Galileo and GLONASS etc.

The camera setup is different for the two variants. The 64GB internal storage variant features a 16MP Quad-camera setup and the 128GB internal storage variant comes with a 48MP quad-camera setup, on the rear. While the rest of the sensors are the same, this includes a 5MP super-wide-angle camera, a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth camera. You can shoot 1080P videos at 30FPS with the rear camera setup and the additional features include stop motion video, Slo-mo mode, Bokeh, panorama, Google lens and HDR etc.

On the front, the 64GB internal storage variant comes with an 8MP selfie camera, while the 128GB internal storage variant features a 13MP selfie camera. Here the selfie camera also shoots videos at 1080 pixel at 30FPS and supports face beautification, face detection, HDR and portrait mode.

For watching videos, capturing pictures, music, shopping and many more things, TCL 20 SE comes with a massive 5000 mAh battery for long day usage without interruption. Furthermore, this device is compatible with 18W fast charging, which according to the statistics refills the battery up to 100% in 5 hours. For connecting the charger, there is a Type-C charging port. Although the battery capacity is more than enough, the charging speed is quite slow here.

TCL 20 SE comes with an excellent rear camera setup along with great battery backup for continuous usage. Also, it comes with a stunning design. However, if you are looking for a smartphone with a strong processor and a better display, there are multiple options available in the market at the same price point. But if you are looking for a camera-centric smartphone with a great battery backup, this is the right smartphone then.
