HTC One X10

Released in July 2017, HTC One 10 is a successor of the previous year’s HTC One X9. the company’s focus for this phone has been to expand the capabilities of the phone and make it stand out in the mid-range market.

The phone weighs 175g, and runs on Android 7.0 (Nougat) with Mediatek MT6755 Helio P10 (28 nm). It has a metal body and features a 5.5 inch FHD display, with a Super LCD capacitive screen that comes with Corning Gorilla Glass. It has an 8 MP, f/2.2, 1/4″, 23mm (wide) front camera and has a 16 MP, f/2.0, 26mm (wide) rear camera with Dual-LED dual-tone flash, HDR and panorama. It measures 6.02 x 2.98 x 0.32 inches, has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, and has a non-removable 4000 mAh Li-ion battery. It also has a PowerVR G6200 GPU for a good gaming experience.

Despite its large size, the One X10 is comfortable to hold because of the slim bezels. The metal construction makes the phone feel premium with the black color version looking sleek. The metal construction also gives off an impression of a strong build. Its screen is coated with Gorilla Glass which gives the phone extra protection. Be careful, though, because it is not dust and water resistant.

Instead of being integrated with the home button, the fingerprint scanner for One X10 sits at the back below the camera.

On returning to the front and analyzing the display, we see that the colors are the right amount of bright and the icons are sharp. Coupled with a 5.5 inches screen and full-HD at 1080 x 1920 pixels, the screen ultimately makes for a great movie/ video watching and gaming experience. The phone has an excellent screen-to-body ratio of 72.1%.

With 32GB of onboard storage and 3GB of RAM you can easily run any apps you want without many issues. If you like to fill up space with movies, video games and other heavy media you can use the slot to add in a MicroSD card of up to 256 GB and expand the storage. With its Mediatek Helio P10 chipset with Octa-Core CPU the One X10 performs faster than other mid-range Snapdragon alternatives. Yes, this means that you are protected from them annoying time lags.

Armed with auto-focus, face detection, HDR and panorama, One X10’s camera will impress you. As will its performance in low light conditions which the company hadn’t been able to get right for a long time. The front camera is ultra-wide which will allow your entire group of friends to take a selfie in a single frame. The rear camera is able to capture the little details due to its high megapixels and reasonably fast focus. There is an upgraded Pro-mode with handy presets that let you adjust camera settings on the go.

HTC’s claims about the X10’s battery lasting for up to 2 days will be true for light to medium users. If, however, you are an avid user and have previously struggled with making your battery last for a day, you’ll be saved here. For such users, the One X10 is able to hold out for a day.

From HTC’s own website: “That’s enough for you to listen to up to 1,200 songs, making it ideal for even the most dedicated music aficionado. This battery has a much higher capacity compared to our previous generation and it lasts 30% longer.”

Usually, most other similar phones have a capacity of around 2800mAh-3000mAh which is lower than HTC’s- a difference you will feel when you use the phone. The battery is non-removable and there is no feature for fast charging. The large battery is also perfect for the large screen. Your screen will last longer than it does in most other phones.

For the price it is offered at, HTC One X10 makes for a very good deal. There is not one major issue that would make you criticize the phone. Overall, a satisfactory purchase and a great phone in the midrange bracket.
