One such phone launched by Huawei is the Huawei Mate 40 Pro. It is all that is expected of a flagship smartphone. Let’s see what the fuss is all about regarding the Mate 40 Pro.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro Price in India

Huawei Mate 40 Pro is launched in some global markets and is retailing for $1,499.99 which converts to ₹1,11,190 which is a lot for a smartphone in this day and age. There is still some speculation as to when Huawei is going to introduce this smartphone in the Indian smartphone market.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro is an intelligently designed smartphone with an aluminium frame, a glass front, and a back made up of either glass or eco-leather depending upon the variant purchased. The front is all screen with a pill-shaped cutout for the front camera setup. The back has the quad-camera setup in a circular manner and the Leica branding in the centre of it and there is the Huawei at the bottom half of the device. We have the power and the volume buttons on the right side of the device. There is the USB Type C port and the loudspeaker situated at the bottom of the device.

The device is measured to be 9.1mm thick for the glass back variant and 9.5mm thick for the eco-leather back variant. The Mate 40 Pro weighs in at around 212g which is a bit heavy for a flagship smartphone.

The display on the Huawei Mate 40 Pro is a large 6.76-inch OLED 1344 by 2772 pixels which are HDR10 certified and is having 90Hz of refresh rate. The pixel density is high at 456ppi density while the screen has around 94.1% of screen-to-body ratio. The display has a great feature called the Eyes-On display which uses one of the biometric-based front cameras to view notifications when someone looks over the device which saves up more battery than the Always-On display.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro is powered by Huawei’s in-house Kirin 9000 5G octa-core processor which is built on 5nm process and clocks up to 3.13GHz. The memory is handled by 8GB of RAM while 256GB or 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage is provided. The storage can be expanded via the hybrid microSD card slot provided.

The connectivity on the Galaxy Note 20 includes Single or Dual SIM variants for the mobile network with support for 5G, WiFi 6 with dual-band support and Bluetooth 5.0 with Low Energy capability. The Mate 40 Pro also supports NFC for payments and other NFC-based tasks.

Biometrics on the Huawei Mate 40 Pro is handled by the in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner and the front camera for Face Recognition.

The Mate 40 Pro runs on Android 10 with Huawei’s EMUI 11 on top of it with the Google Play Services missing from the device.

The camera department on the Huawei Mate 40 Pro is handled by the triple camera setup on the back and dual camera setup on the front.

The quad-camera setup consists of a 50MP wide sensor with omnidirectional PDAF and Laser AF for autofocus, a 12MP periscope based telephoto sensor with PDAF and up to 5x optical zoom, and lastly, we have the 20MP ultrawide lens with PDAF. All of the sensors on the rear camera setup are having Leica optics. The lighting is provided with the LED flashlight on the back of the device. The main camera is capable of up to 4K at 60fps video recording with gyro-EIS and OIS.

The front camera is having a 13MP ultrawide sensor and a TOF 3D (Time of Flight) Sensor for depth imaging and biometric face unlocking. The front camera supports video recording of up to 4K at 60fps.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro is powered by the 4400mAh battery which is fast charge capable of up to 66W of wired charging and up to 50W of wireless charging. There is also support for reverse wireless charging through the Mate 40 Pro for up to 5W of charging capacity.

Huawei Mate 40 Pro is a great smartphone with some great work of engineering put into it. The performance is great thanks to 5nm process node manufacture of the SoC and power consumption on 5G is fewer thanks to the integration of the 5G modem in the SoC itself. This brilliant piece of technology is only eclipsed by its high pricing and most of all, the absence of the Google Play Services from the Mate 40 Pro. Now, Huawei has tried to make it work by having its own Appstore integrated into the Mate 40 Pro but it still cannot fill in some gaps. But keeping the flaws aside, the Mate 40 Pro is a premium smartphone with specs to match any other smartphone out there.
