Huawei P50 Pocket, a new clamshell-style foldable phone has been launched by Huawei in China today, after the unveiling of two tablet-style foldable recently. There is a slew of new features in this phone that make it a strong competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. These include a circular screen cover, a foldable screen with a fast refresh rate, and a revolutionary hinge design, among others. A total of three colour options are available for the Huawei P50 Pocket, including black, Diamond White, and Premium Gold Edition. The black model will be the only one that will not be purchasable outside of China. The smartphone will be offered in China for a starting price of CNY 8,988 (roughly 1,06,000). The premium Gold Edition, on the other hand, will sell for CNY 10,988. (roughly 1,29,900). There are currently no details available about the availability of the Huawei P50 Pocket in the foreign market.

In terms of aesthetics, the Huawei P50 Pocket has a lot in common with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 3. For this foldable, the multi-dimensional hinge is a major selling factor, as it allows for a crease-free and flat-holding construction. Although it has a smaller diameter than its predecessors, it’s said to have a longer lifespan. When folded, the gadget is about 15mm thick, but just 7.2mm thick when unfurled. This foldable phone weighs in around 190 grammes, which isn’t bad for a device of this kind. 

The Huawei P50 Pocket’s most notable feature is its twin ring design on the back. It has a 1.04-inch smart cover display, while the other ring holds a triple camera array. Like the Z Flip 3’s cover display, this one shows call/message alerts, calendar alerts, audio playback choices, and more.

The display has a 21:9 aspect ratio and a 2790 x 1188p resolution on the 6.9-inch Full-HD+ foldable OLED screen. HDR compatibility, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a DCI-P3 colour gamut are also included in the foldable inner panel.  On the rear of the device, there is a secondary display with 1.04-inch screen size and 340 × 340 pixel resolution. The screen may be used to check your alerts, the time and date, frame a selfie with the back cameras, and a variety of other functions.

With a Snapdragon 888 SoC, it’s lovely and speedy, but it’ll start to seem a bit antiquated in a few weeks when the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC begins to make its way into smartphones. This is also the 4G version of the chip, which means that there is no 5G connection on this device either. There are also 8 or 12 gigabytes of RAM and a choice of 256 or 512 gigabytes of internal storage. One thing it lacks is 5G connectivity, and it also does not run Android, instead, it runs Huawei’s HarmonyOS operating system.

In terms of imaging, the Huawei P50 Pocket backshot employs a three-camera system with features that include a 40MPprimary camera, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 32MP hyperspectral camera. As a complement to its flagship picture capabilities, which include the P50 series primary colour engine and computational optics, the hyperspectral image technology of the XD Fusion Pro enables better performance in low-light conditions, as well as a more exciting fluorescent photographic experience.
