JioPhone Next Launched In India: Price, Specs, Availability

Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has announced the JioPhone Next in India. The smartphone was launched at the Reliance AGM 2021 event today. The smartphone is the result of a collaboration between Reliance Jio and Google. Moreover, this partnership was already announced at last year’s AGM event. So, we did know that something big in the works.

The Google-Jio partnership brings an optimized Android experience to the JioPhone Next. This optimization allows the smartphone to run Android seamlessly on an entry-level hardware. The latest smartphone by Reliance Jio also gives users Google Play store access. Additionally, the smartphone offers a lot of other features like voice assitant, language translation and more.

Ambani states that, “India still has nearly 300 million mobile users who are unable to escape from inefficient and exorbitant 2G services… because even a basic 4G smartphone remains unaffordable for these users. Last year… Sundar and I had talked about Google and Jio co-developing a next-generation, feature-rich, but extremely affordable smartphone.”

Moreover, Sundar Pichai took to Twitter to celebrate the brand new announcement which was possible because of their partnership.

Price & Availability

The JioPhone Next’s launch date in India is set at September 10, on Ganesh Chaturthi. However, the price of the device has not been announced. However, one thing can be said that the JioPhone Next will most likely be “by far the most affordable 4G smartphone” in the Indian market. The smartphone will be a force to be reckoned with for Xiaomi, Samsung and Realme offering entry-level 4G devices.

JioPhone Next Specifications

The JioPhone Next is specifically designed to meet the needs of people looking to upgrade from 2G to 4G connectivity on an affordable smartphone. The latest smartphone by Google and Jio is based on an optimized Android experience. This Android experience is customized to work seamless on entry-level hardware.

Furthermore, the Google-Jio smartphone comes with a bunch of preloaded features. These include a voice assistant, automatic read-aloud screen text feature and language translation. Additionally, there is also a camera with augmented reality filters. More importantly, the smartphone comes with support for active and regular Android updates.

Ambani says that, “JioPhone Next is powered by an extremely optimised version of the Android operating system that has been jointly developed by Jio and Google, specially for the Indian market.” He goes on to say that, “This is a testimony to a global technology giant, and a national technology champion, working together to make truly a breakthrough product that can be first introduced in India, and then taken to the rest of the world.”
