Cancellation of the OnePlus 9T could be due to the global shortage of chips?

OnePlus has launched two flagship series every year so far. One is the mainstream series like the recent OnePlus 9 at the beginning of the year. The other is the ‘T-series’ which includes two variants later in the year likely the OnePlus 9T. However, it looks like this might not be the case this year. To recall, we are seeing the T-lineup launches since the OnePlus 3T. Although, this time the company might ditch its plans for launching the OnePlus 9T smartphone.

This information comes from OnePlus leaker Max Jambor. He has a fairly good track record when it comes to OnePlus leaks. Yesterday, with a cryptic tweet, “No 9T”, he hints at the possibility of no OnePlus 9T launch this year. Meanwhile, there is no information on the reason for it or even a confirmation from the company.

Cancellation of the OnePlus 9T could be due to the global shortage of chips?

There are a couple of reasons why OnePlus might choose not to release a “T” variant of the OnePlus 9 series. One of the speculated reasons can be the ongoing global chip shortage. This shortage is making sourcing parts for smartphones difficult in the first place. The global shortage of chips has forced other manufacturers like Samsung and Huawei to drop some of their expected launches.

Whereas, the other reason can be the fact that there are not many tangible changes you can bring to the OnePlus 9T. However, at this point – these are just leaks and speculations. Meanwhile, the company is focussing on launching OnePlus Nord 2 and OnePlus CE 5G smartphones in India. Both the phones are now targeted at the mid-range segment. Right now, the company is working on both segments – the mid-range and premium. Let us wait and see what the company brings next.
