Samsung’s top-rated smartphone series, the Samsung Galaxy S22, was recently discovered to have performance limitations. As a result, the company is restricting the performance of more than 1,000 apps. Those apps are on the list of Game Optimising Service (GOS). Moreover, GOS is available to improve system speed and reduce heat concerns. However, the fact emerges that the app prevented specific programs from fully exploiting the chip’s capabilities.
Apps such as LinkedIn, Snapchat, Microsoft Office, etc., are on the list of popular apps of GOS. However, at the same time, the apps such as Geekbench and 3D mark are not on the list of Benchmark apps. Therefore, after the fiasco, Now, Geekbench has decided to exclude the Samsung Galaxy S22 series smartphones. Moreover, Geekbench has also chosen to delist some older smartphones from the Android Benchmark chart on the Geekbench Browser.
Reasons for delisting Samsung Galaxy S22 series from Geekbench
After it is known that the Samsung Galaxy S22 series impacts various apps’ performance, it is removed from Geekbench’s Android Benchmark Chart. GOS uses Application IDs to throttle (or not throttle) apps. Geekbench also discovered that apart from the S22 series.
Even Samsung’s S21 series, Galaxy S20 series, and Galaxy S10 series employed GOS after extensive internal testing. All devices listed on Geekbench under the flagship smartphones are removed from the Android Benchmark Chart.
As per Geekbench benchmark manipulation, GOS decides whether to throttle an app or not based on identifiers.
In its defence, Samsung claims that GOS on the S22 series is all set to avoid excessive overheating during extended gaming sessions. However, to accommodate the demands of various consumers, the company recently announced that it would release a software update that will include a performance priority choice.
The choice will be present in the game launcher app’s game booster lab. In addition, the company has launched an internal inquiry into the situation. Currently, there is no information on when the new update will be available to Samsung users.
