WhatsApp Disappearing Photos and Videos Feature

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp’s “view once” feature will soon be available in iOS beta versions. We saw the same feature for the Android beta version recently. The feature will be available to WhatsApp beta users on iOS with the v 2.21.140.9 update.

Users will be able to send disappearing photographs and videos using the new ‘view once’ feature, which is similar to Snapchat. These images and video files will not be stored locally on the receiver’s device and will instead be deleted after being viewed once, preventing either party from recovering the lost media item.

However, unlike Snapchat, which notifies when someone captured a screenshot of your disappearing photographs, WhatsApp will not do so. Hence, it will not be as secure as Snapchat in terms of preventing screenshots, at least for the time being.

The feature is already available to the bulk of WhatsApp Beta users on iOS. And those who haven’t yet seen the new button added to their chat bar should see it shortly.

New Redesigned in-app Notifications

Users will be able to see more information in the notification banner; such as photos, videos, and GIFs, as well as jaws, thanks to a new revamped in-app notification menu. WABetaInfo wrote in a post, “The user can now expand the in-app notification in order to show the chat preview: the chat preview is not static like the one that appears when you peek on a chat cell, so the user can scroll up and down the view to see older and newer messages”.
