Xiaomi’s success in India has been largely due to the Redmi lineup released in India which has helped them capture the market all while delivering bang-for-the-buck devices to the masses. Redmi 9 Prime launched is a testament that Xiaomi is not going to let that market share go away any time soon. Redmi 9 Prime is a true budget phone by Xiaomi which is aimed at first-time buyers and the pocket conscious.
Redmi 9 Prime Price in India
Xiaomi Redmi 9 Prime in India is priced at ₹9,999 for the 4GB + 64GB variant and ₹11,999 for the 4GB + 128GB variant. This is very aggressive pricing by Xiaomi to market the phone under ₹10,000 and still offer features such as quad-camera setup, Full HD+ screen and a massive 5020mAh battery.
Redmi 9 Prime has a plastic unibody design with circular fringes in the back for added design and texture. The Redmi 9 Prime on the front has a 6.53-inch FHD+ screen which is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. On the backside, the Redmi 9 Prime is equipped with a quad-camera setup with a LED flashlight. On the right side, the power and the volume buttons are present while on the left side only the SIM + microSD card slot is present. On the top of the Redmi 9 Prime, there lies IR blaster for Remote Functionalities and a secondary microphone. On the bottom, there lies the USB Type-C port, the primary microphone, a single loudspeaker and a headphone jack.
Redmi 9 Prime is offered in four colours, Matte Black, Mint Green, Space Blue and Sunrise Flare which is a bluish-pink colour gradient.
Redmi 9 Prime comes with a 2340×1080 6.53-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display with a 395 PPI density. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and offers 83.2% screen-to-body ratio. Xiaomi is also advertising the display of having a peak brightness of 400 nits. The Redmi 9 Prime has a waterdrop style notch in the centre-top of the display to house the front camera unit.
Redmi 9 Prime has a Mediatek Helio G80 octa-core processor built on 12nm process which clocks up to 2.0 GHz. The processor is paired up with 4GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of storage depending upon the variant purchased. The storage can be expanded up to 512GB via the dedicated microSD card slot provided.
Redmi 9 Prime runs on custom MIUI 11 which is based on Android 10.
The camera department on Redmi 9 Prime is handled by a quad-camera setup on the back and a single 8MP shooter on the front.
The quad-camera setup consists of a 13MP main sensor, an 8MP ultrawide sensor with 118.2˚ Field Of View, a 5MP macro sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. Lighting is handled by the LED flashlight provided.
The battery on Redmi 9 Prime is a massive 5020mAh which may last up to 2 days of usage with a full charge, which is more than enough for the average user.
There is fast charge support of 18W but the Redmi 9 Prime comes bundled with a 10W charger only. This is not wonderous but pretty good for the price.
Redmi 9 Prime is an entry-level device offering more than enough features for the price. A massive battery, an FHD+ screen and a quad-camera setup is a steal at this price point. The headphone jack and a dedicated microSD card slot is just the icing on the cake; but the bitter-sweet part is the MIUI skin which is a very performance hungry skin on top of Android which needs to be bit lighter if the Redmi 9 Prime is to shine.
In conclusion, besides the MIUI skin, the Redmi 9 Prime offers many features which makes this phone a perfect buy for the first time and the pocket conscious buyers.
