Introduction

The Redmi Watch 2 Lite was just launched by Redmi in India as a successor to the Redmi Watch that was launched last year. There are numerous smartwatches on the market now, some of which are far less expensive than the Xiaomi Redmi Watch 2 Lite.

The square shape of the Watch 2 Lite looks similar to the Apple Watch. With features like heart rate tracking, SpO2 monitoring, GPS built-in, fitness tracking around the clock, and a battery life that lasts up to a week, it’s compatible with both Android and iPhones.

I’ve been using the smartwatch for over a week now, and here is the Redmi Watch 2 Lite review.

Price in India and Variants

The Redmi Watch 2 Lite costs Rs 4,999 in India and will be available from Amazon, Xiaomi’s website, and Mi Home stores, as well as other offline retailers there.

The smartwatch comes in three different colours: black, blue, and ivory. In addition, the smartwatch comes with straps in a variety of colours including blue, black, brown, ivory and olive.

The Redmi Watch 2 Lite brings the same items inside the box as any other smartwatch:

  • The watch

  • User manual

Specs at a glance

Before we talk in detail about the smartwatch, let’s see what the on-paper specs look like:

  • Display: 1.55-inch TFT
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth 5.0, GPS
  • Supported OS: Android, iOS
  • Battery: 262mAh
  • Weight: 35 grams

Design and Build

The Redmi Watch 2 Lite looks nice and feels good to wear. It sports a rectangular touchscreen with a rather thin bezel. The front of the watch looks clean because there are no branding or logos on the bezel. It features the same high-quality build as the majority of Xiaomi’s devices.

The whole watch is made out of plastic, and its soft strap is made out of thermoplastic. It has an elegant feel and is available in a number of colours, including Ivory Creme, Midnight Black, and Blue Dragon. The strap is also simple to remove and reattach.

With a weight of just 35 grams, it feels really light on my wrist. In addition, the watch is water-resistant to 5ATM, allowing you to use it while swimming. There is a single button on the right side that serves multiple functions and also provides tactical feedback.

There is a heart rate monitor on the backside.  It features a green LED on the back that lights up when your heart rate is being measured. The LED will turn red when you are measuring your SpO2 or your blood oxygen levels with the watch.

Because it does not support regular watch straps, you will need to purchase new watch straps only from Xiaomi. Other than that, I have no concerns regarding its look or build quality.

Battery and Charging

The Redmi Watch 2 Lite packs a 262mAh battery, and Xiaomi says that under normal use, it can survive up to 10 days and under heavy use, it can last up to 5 days. The term “heavy use” means enabling all features, including continuous SpO2 monitoring and always-on stress monitoring with other features.

During my usage, the watch lasted between three and four days. And that’s with the continuous SpO2, heart rate, and sleep tracking turned on. I also enabled notifications for the majority of apps that were installed on the connected smartphone. The watch can definitely last a full week for the average user.

It takes roughly two hours to fully recharge the watch from 0 to 100 per cent. The lengthy charging period can be overlooked due to the long battery life of over a week.

Display

The Redmi Watch 2 Lite sports a 1.55-inch display with a resolution of 320×360p. The screen has a pixel density of 328 ppi and a peak brightness of 450 nits. Viewing angles and image quality are both good. The content on the screen of the Redmi Watch 2 Lite is viewable even in direct sunlight.

Because there is no ambient light sensor on the watch, the screen brightness must be adjusted manually. The display turns on when you raise your arm however it’s not the quickest I have seen. Touch is responsive as well.

The 2.5D curved tempered glass that protects the display further enhances the durability of the watch. I noticed that the bottom bezel was somewhat thicker than the rest of the bezels on the watch.

Fitness and Health Features

Fitness freaks would love the Redmi Watch 2 Lite. The watch features more than 100 fitness modes. The watch was able to automatically detect a few of those activities and will prompt users to start active tracking when it does so.

The watch could automatically tell when I went jogging in the evening and notified me to switch to tracking mode. However, you must manually stop the tracking after you have completed the activity.

You won’t need to bring your phone with you to do outdoor activities like running or cycling if you have a Redmi Watch 2 Lite because it comes equipped with an in-built GPS system. I also found that the step tracking is fairly precise.

In terms of health-related features, the Redmi Watch 2 Lite delivers everything you’d expect from a smartwatch at this price. It can track your heart rate, SpO2 levels, sleep patterns, stress levels, and even basic breathing exercises.

Redmi Watch 2 Lite SpO2

If you are the type of person who always wears your watch, then it can provide fairly accurate tracking of your sleep behaviours. On top of that, the tracking of heart rate and the measurements of the blood oxygen monitoring are also quite reliable, with an accuracy of over 90 per cent.

It shows a graph of your heart rate on the watch itself, and you can set it to keep checking every 1 minute to 30 minutes.

Software and UI

The Xiaomi Redmi Watch 2 Lite uses Xiaomi’s own software. You may link the Watch to your smartphone by using the Mi Fitness companion app or Xiaomi Wear, which is available for both Android and iOS.

The app displays all of the data that has been gathered by the watch, such as the number of steps taken, the number of calories burned, the most recent workout stats, data regarding sleep, and more.

It can also display call notifications in addition to time and fitness/workout metrics. The watch is unable to show emojis correctly and does not provide compatibility for some Indian languages, including Gujarati and Tamil.

In the My Profile section of the app, you can also see how long the battery will last. You can change the watch faces as per your taste. You have the option of downloading new watch faces or setting a custom image, which can even be a slideshow as the watch face.

Using the app, you may select which widgets appear on the watch as you swipe. Additionally, you have the option of selecting the app that can show notifications and adding as many as seven widgets.

Redmi Watch 2 Lite UI

The overall UI is well-designed and visually appealing. The user interface does stutter occasionally, but for the most part, it runs well.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Water-resistant (5ATM)
  • Lightweight
  • Big Colour display
  • Good battery life
  • Lots of features and sports modes

Cons

  • The display doesn’t wake up quickly
  • Old design
  • TFT display

Verdict

Anyone looking for a low-cost fitness watch with a huge display might choose the Redmi Watch Lite 2. The watch has a big screen, GPS, and a number of workout modes. Moreover, it is water-resistant up to 5ATM and has long battery life.

However, there are a few minor bugs in the software that dampen the overall experience. Hopefully, Xiaomi will address these issues with a software update soon.

Not to mention, the watch works brilliantly on both Android and Apple iOS. For under Rs. 5,000, you can’t go wrong with the Xiaomi Redmi Watch 2 Lite smartwatch.
