About the Phone
What justifies the price of the phone is its camera and performance. The display quality makes the phone tough not to choose if great battery life is something not on your priority list. There are few phones in the same price bracket and similar features that would be able to compete with Galaxy J7 Duo. Even though there is nothing exceptional about the phone, its lightening quick processor makes it a great choice for gamers, while camera makes it a compelling choice for Social Media buffs. Had the battery been better, this would have been a tough phone to beat!
Time and again, we have devices in the market that are able to attract attention for their handsome set of specifications and good looks amidst a fiercely competitive mid-range Smartphone market, and Samsung Galaxy J7 Duo is one such phone. With enhanced security with Face Recognition facility, shopping and payments made delightful and brisk with Samsung Mall and PayMini, smooth edged classy design, and breathtaking performance, this phone is sure to make waves.
This is not the most attractive body and convincing phone design that we are looking at. Samsung has lowered the design pitch by abandoning the metallic body for a removable plastic back in Galaxy J7 Duo. The design appears somewhat outdated with pronounced bezels and 16:9 aspect ratio.
The 5.5” Super AMOLED display is HD only, but does not fail to impress. It might be disappointing for those seeking value for money that the phone does not have full HD display which its competitors have. It is however the vivid colours, quality contrast and brightness that impress. The phone is easy to the eye in sunlight or darkness but an ambient light sensor missing is a bit of a surprise. To let the users adjust the brightness manually time and again is unacceptable at this level of competition.
Samsung has packed a pleasant surprise in this department. It has installed premium Exynos 7885 chipset in the phone to provide it a strong hardware base. Even though the cores are under-locked for battery longevity, it does boost the performance significantly. Be it gaming that is heavy on graphics, multitasking, or continued heavy usage, the phone works with ease with little sign of glitches. The 4GB RAM ensures consistency in performance but it is a mere 32GB of internal storage with keeps the phone from being rated excellent on performance despite a 256GB of expandable storage.
Here, Galaxy J7 Duo stands amongst the best Samsung phones. The phone has a dual camera at the back (13MP and 5MP) endowed with f/1.9 aperture. The details in images are sharp and rich while colour accuracy is remarkable. The shutter is swift which adds instinct to photography. The Live Focus option ably adds depth and refinement to photos for Bokeh effects. The readjustment options for focus and blur intensity make it a great phone for Social Media enthusiasts and avid photographers. The 8MP selfie camera does not have features to boast about but picture quality is great. Skin tones are enriched and smoothened while sharpness is maintained which makes the selfies charming. The selfie camera is relatively better with close-up selfies than those clicked from a distance.
Galaxy J7 Duo has a 3000 mAh battery which does not quite match with a high-quality processor and power consuming display. The average battery time is less than 24 hours which is a bit of a worry. Since the phone is good for gaming, carrying an additional battery would not be a bad idea.
Carelessness on the design front, below average battery life and an average display do not allow Galaxy J7 Duo to be the best phone it its range. The features are not ideally balanced mainly because of disappointing display and battery and great performance and picture quality which can irk the users as they might feel deceived. However, if you have experience with Smartphones and switch them often, you would be surprised by its fluidity and speed.
