Highlights of Sennheiser IE 900

The Sennheiser IE 900 has three pairs of silicone and memory foam ear tips. It also has three cables, one with a standard 3.5mm plug and two with balanced 2.5mm and 4.4mm plugs. Connection to the headphones is via MMCX connectors. All cables are reinforced with para-aramid fibre, and the connectors are gold-plated. MMCX connectors have a slightly increased insertion depth for increased reliability, so some custom headphone cables may not fit. Overall, they look great, are reliable and durable, and fit snugly in your ears.

The Sennheiser IE 900 uses Sennheiser’s proprietary 7mm wideband TrueResponse drivers. However, the X3R’s three-chamber Helmholtz resonator damping system and an acoustic funnel cut into the headphone nozzle eliminate resonant peaks in the high-frequency response, and a custom rear volume chamber provides better bass and midrange control. The drivers are matched to each other for maximum sound consistency. The headphones have a high passive noise isolation with adapted ear pads (especially the foam ear pads).

The low impedance (18 Ohms) and high sound pressure level (123 dB) allow the Sennheiser IE 900 to be used with any device; even with a regular smartphone, there is no lack of gain and volume. At the same time, the headphones react subtly to the gain quality and resolution of the signal source and greatly benefit from using a balanced connection.
