Xiaomi Redmi 9A borrows most of its design elements from its predecessor, the Redmi 8A. On the back of the device is a plastic back that has a circular fringe design with the single rear camera and the LED flashlight which is encapsulated in a rounded rectangle of design with a Redmi branding on the bottom of it. On the front, we have the 6.53-inch screen with a V-shaped teardrop notch for the front camera and an earpiece grill. The power and the volume buttons are placed on the right side of the device for easy access. There are a micro USB port, a loudspeaker, and a microphone on the bottom of the device. The device also has the P2i nano-coating to protect from water splashes and spills. The Redmi 9A comes in Sea Blue, Nature Green, and Midnight Black colours. The phone is weighed in at 194g which is due to the massive battery present inside.
There is a 6.53-inch screen which is of 720 by 1600 pixel HD+ display with a 20:9 ratio. The screen is an IPS LCD screen with an 81.1% screen-to-body ratio and a 269PPI of pixel density. The brightness of this device is advertised to be at 270 nits of peak brightness. This display is Reading Mode Certified by TÜV Rheinland which is aimed to protect eyes and reduces harmful blue light.
The device is powered by the MediaTek Helio G25 which is an octa-core processor built on the 12nm process. This processor is capable of achieving top clock speeds of 2.0GHz. The device is available in variants of 32GB of storage and memory of 2GB and 3GB of RAM. There is also a provision to expand the storage up to 512GB via the dedicated microSD card slot provided.
Redmi 9A is powered by the Android 10 with Xiaomi’s own MIUI 11 skin on top of it.
Xiaomi Redmi 9A has a single camera unit setup with a 13MP rear camera with f2.2 aperture and an LED flash for lighting up the shots. The rear camera can support video output of 1080p at 60fps. The front shooter is a 5MP with an f2.2 aperture with HDR enabled. The front camera can output up to 1080p at 30fps. These sets of cameras are adequate for a smartphone of this price range and should be able to perform decently.
The battery is a huge 5020mAh Li-Po battery which is more than enough to last a full day in a single charge. There is 10W of charging supported by the battery using the provided power brick. This charging capacity will be a bit shortcoming to charge in a short amount of time.
Xiaomi Redmi 9A is an all-rounder smartphone for the entry-level buyers who just require the most basic features that a smartphone offers. But there are some shortcomings in this device that need to be fixed for future versions in this series.
