      Description

The Huawei Nova 5T has that reflective, Huawei premium touch to attract you when you first look at it. Priced at Rs. 27,290, the Nova 5T can keep you satisfied with its handsome looks and decent performance.

The Huawei Nova 5T, however, has its disadvantages. It fails to come with waterproofing. Plus, it does not have the power that a Snapdragon 855 can provide. Yet, if you are a Huawei fan, the Nova 5T has everything to keep you satisfied.

      Highlights

Nova 5T comes with the Huawei promise and looks. It does have a few pros and cons, though:

      Pros

      • The phone has a fantastic look, which can even hide the fingerprint scuffs that it picks up.
      • The phone comes with a crisp display.
      • The Nova 5T has a decent performance, which can keep any mid-rangers satisfied.
      • The phone has a quad-camera setup that works brilliantly in both daylight and low-light conditions.

      Cons

      • The Nova 5T is not water-resistant
      • The phone does not come with AMOLED screen so, you lose out on the AMOLED vibrancy.
      • The phone performance is not as good as the Snapdragon 855.
      • The battery of the phone, though decent, does not match up with the competition that it comes with.

The Nova 5T is a great phone for a Huawei fan. However, it does come with some problems. The lack of AMOLED screen and water-resistance are big issues with the phone and may land it behind its competition. Otherwise, the phone remains a decent model. If you are a photographer, then this phone can be a great model to go for because of its awesome cameras.

      Expert Opinion

Huawei Nova 5T has the Huawei premiumness in looks and cameras but lacks the AMOLED display and competitive performance to keep it at the top of its competition.

      Display

The phone has a large 6.26 inch IPS LCD panel, which is quite vibrant, though it does lose out on the AMOLED screen vibrancy. The blacks become a bit grey on this handset. The phone has a Full HD+ resolution of 2340x1080p. You do get 412 PPI with this phone, which means that the phone will keep the images crisp and partially immersive. One of the benefits of the LCD screen is that it will keep the battery consumption at a low. So, while you may not get deep blacks, you will have a reliable phone for yourself.

      Screen Size6.26 inches
      Display Resolution1080 x 2340 pixels

      Design

The Huawei Nova 5T arrives with a 2.5D glass-clad back which has a reflective finish to it. The glass finish can take up fingerprints easily which makes the phone dirty. However, the reflective light can camouflage and hide the fingerprints easily. The rear of this phone has a quad-camera setup placed vertically. It looks like the P30 Pro. There is a camera bump, but it won’t be much of a problem. On the front, you have a large screen and a 4.5mm punch hole. The notch-less display gives you more than a 90% screen-to-body ratio. It has a fingerprint scanner on the side, which can also work as a power button. At the bottom, it has the USB Type-C port. The phone is not water-resistant.

      Performance

The Huawei Nova 5T arrives with a Kirin 980. It is the same chipset that powers up the Huawei Mate 20 and P30 series and is capable of fantastic AI-integrated performance. Plus, it is paired with 8GB RAM making it a great phone. However, it is not as powerful as the Snapdragon 855 series found in OnePlus 7. The phone can handle many apps without facing any stuttering. Plus, you can even download large files while streaming videos without slowing down the phone. When it comes to gaming performance, the phone can run high-end games with high presets without facing any problem. It also has a Performance Mode, which slightly boosts the performance but drains the battery fast.

      Camera

Huawei is known for its camera, and Nova 5T does not disappoint. It has a quad-camera setup, which looks similar to the P30 Pro. It has a 32MP selfie camera with AI integration. However, the AI integration does make the selfie look overprocessed. If you click a selfie at night, the AI can be of immense help. The four cameras on the rear of this phone are – a 48MP primary camera, a 16MP super-wide lens, an 8MP telephoto lens, and a 2MP macro lens.

The images are bright and crisp, carrying amazing details in them. However, when clicking human subjects, the phone does tend to get dull results. The shots may seem overexposed at times. Video shooting is mostly smooth. However, the phone lacks OIS, which can lead to jerky videos. However, the videos, even the 4K videos, are respectable.

      Battery

Nova 5T arrives with a 3,750mAh battery. The battery life of the phone is fine. Intensive activities like social media, web browsing, and gaming saw the phone get to about 22% at the end of the day. However, moderate use found it last well beyond a day. The phone can run a 90-minute Full HD video in max brightness and lost only 14%. While there are phones with better battery scores, this score of Nova 5T is quite admirable too. The phone comes with fast charging too and gets up a reasonable amount of charge in just 30 minutes.

      Verdict

The Nova 5T can be said to be a mature version of the Nova 4. It has a blazingly fast processor and an amazing quad-camera setup. The cameras on this phone are of Huawei category, which means you get brilliant pictures with this phone. However, Nova 5T has its shortcomings. It comes with an LCD screen, which is surprising since many mid-range phones have gone for the OLED display. The phone does not come with water resistance or wireless charging either. If you are a photographer, then this phone can be a great handset to go for.
